Bandit,
So do I - but only for cutting up the wood I've pruned from our trees, and for our wood stoves during the winter. What are yours for - the land sharks? Ally |

Thanks for the link Nelly.
I just tried it ranked in order for - snow reliability, convenience, and intermediate in France. Out of 46 resorts it came up with Val Thorens as number one, which is very funny because we've been there twice now, and really liked it. Second was Tignes, and we're going there now in October. Eighth was Courchevel and we're going there in Feb. I think the problem is one doesn't really know what order to put things in until after one has been ski-ing a few times and experienced trying to ski in slush, or walking miles in ski boots etc. etc. Ally |

Is your son better yet? Ally |

Rose,
Thank you very much for working so hard to help us all, although I'm not actually in your catchment area. And I'm sorry some people have been so awful towards you and your staff. But it's nice to know there are people around like you prepared to do their bit for everyone. I'm sure some of the people who come to you for the drugs are actually helped by them. Whatever was wrong with me has gone now, after 4 days. Yesterday I managed to clean all day and then go for a 6 mile hike. So I am back to normal - thank goodness. I don't know what it was, but I'm very glad it's gone, with no treatment other than rest and plenty of drinks. It's very rare I become totally exhausted like I was - unable to move. Ally |

Ian,
I'm glad you're feeling a bit better now. Rose, I think it's terrible that you're all expected to work when you're ill. You poor things. Have they run out of pharmacists now, or what? Ally |

Thanks Trencher,
I think you did tell me once which sort of skis I ought to use carving, and I think I wrote it down somewhere. I also need to practice moguls. I went all the way to the Manchester snow dome and they'd cancelled their mogul lessons, and there weren't even any moguls on the slope at all. So we didn't stay long and went to the Lake District instead - only 1 1/2 hours from Chill Factore, and very nice. I got off the 'slope' at 4 p.m. and I was having a cruise on lake Windermere by 6 p.m. I haven't actually booked Tignes yet, they are holding a place for us while I think about it. Ally |

Ian,
As I think I said somewhere before, the skis I was dished out with last Feb in Val Thorens were marvellous, the best I've ever had. I was faster than everyone else, even my instructor, on the schuss, and they carved like magic - I just had to think which way I wanted to go and the skis went there. The only thing they didn't do well was moguls, and I think that was me, not the skis. But unfortunately I've got no idea what make or modal or year of ski they were. I'm a very unobservant sort of person - as Bandit said, I need to do more homework. I guess I might try out some simple change, like long skis one day, and short the next, to see if I can notice the difference. Ally |

Ian,
As a matter of fact I've been ill myself for the last 3 days or so, and I haven't been out working (which is why I've been on here - in case anyone's been wondering). I've got a high temperature, exhaustion, I was sneezing, and I've got a pain in my back on the right side which I think is in my lung. I don't know if I have a nasty cold or the pig flu like swskier. I don't feel like I'm dying or anything, in fact I'm feeling a bit better now, but I would like to know how one can tell whether it's swine flu or not. The NHS website was no help at all. Do you really think you've got it, or just a nasty cold? Ally |
