Too old to take up skiing
Started by User in Beginning Skiing, 50 Replies
There's more to do in the mountains than skiing :D If someone has an urge to try they should give it a go but if they just want to experience winter in the mountains then snow shoeing might be more fun, it's something you can pick up in a a short while and get straight out doing.
So what is new with the forum ?

bandit wrote:Yes ise, I was thinking of the correct desert, and that stuff gets in everywhere )

I see you found some snow to photograph, but where are all the camels?

Nice puddings BTW :D

Not really a big thing in this area. I think next time I'm going to go deeper into the desert and the Sahara and use camels to get there, and/or climb/ski Jebel Toubkal. I did see some near Ouarzazate but it was probably more for tourists.

However, a law forcing skiers to buy equipment will not make them learn how to use it, all it will do is give them misplaced confidence to take even greater risks.

A better law to have passed might have been to require anybody who skis out of bounds to have recco, next of kin and ID forms, to help body recovery and identification. It would make people think twice about the consequences of their decisions.

Most people spending a lot of money on a transceiver will play with it, it's human nature. It's also the bit of kit people who do know what they're doing will be carrying and they are most likely to be on scene first and they won't have RECCO detectors.

What's more likely is that people without kit will be deterred from venturing off-piste and that's a good outcome and obviously the aim.
