A real shame and thoughts go out to his family and friends.

RIP

There has been criticism of the positioning of the final jump and the width of the finish gate. It was possible to go over the final jump and ski straight into the net after landing. Most D/H have padding cushions in the finish area, and having seen the video of this accident, the netting appeared to offer no shock absorption.

dgou wrote:No they weren't but they still cost me £35! Is it wrong to ski in boots without them in, even if they are more comfortable and I can wiggle my toes better without them? It was a joy not to have aching soles!

I can't have my boots too tightly done up owing to circulation problems (DVT) so to be able to adjust them more easily just by moving the clips across was so much better.

My husband joked that it would be good if ski boots had a memory for all their settings....and that they stayed on the most comfortable, as there are 4 lots of clips to fart-arse about with! (fart-arse is a technical term you understand!)

Back to Lockwoods pronto!

Your ski socks should be quite thin, and IMHO your foot needs a platform within the bottom of the boot:ie: a decent supportive footbed.

You should be able to wiggle your toes with the footbed in place.

Thoughts...that 60cm on lower pistes for mid March is a good depth.
Not sure what your expectations are with this, do you need village slopes with deep snow? Most traditional alpine villages have meadow as village slopes, unlike high altitude French resorts, which are very rocky, and would struggle with 30cm of cover.

I'm planning to be skiing much later than Easter 2012, pretty much up until the end of April. Then I shall head for Spain 8)
Lovely report Tony

Reads like you had a great week, despite the gang having some local transport problems!

Shame about Wickers' knee though, he is getting on a bit mind...

Shame about the crowds and usual StA on-piste nutters. I have memories of much the same. I think those factors pushed you into thinking less about km's and resort size and more about what type of terrain would be fun to ski 8)
