The ski gloves that I did have literally fell to pieces at La Rosiere because of all those drag lifts so I had to buy some more in resort.

I bought some big, roomy Versant Nord gloves which are great but not very elegant. I can't remember what they cost now - it was an emergency! The French saleswoman said she has a lot of trouble selling ski gloves to women because they seem to want tight-fitting gloves that make their hands look small and elegant and therefore the gloves aren't so warm because there's no space for air pockets in them.

Actually, I preferred the Chalet school books (not surprising perhaps) and I was always desperate to live up in the Alps and be able to ski, skate and sledge in the winter and speak several European languages.

Your green face is frightening me into submission already - I will be having nightmares all night now about that face and having those ghastly dreams about chemistry exams when I haven't done any revision.

I've been hiring skis for about 5 years now in Austria and France, and I find they always want your weight, height and shoe size in continental sizes - so be prepared and know what these are in advance. And don't lie about your weight because they need to know what it is for the quick release bindings to work correctly and safely.

As is said elsewhere, you can sometimes get beginner learn to ski packages which include ski hire more cheaply than you can get it if you go independantly. But if you organize the rental yourself it's generally cheaper to book it on the internet well ahead of time through the nearest ski shop to your hotel.

Remember, if you have a problem with your hired skis or boots during the week you can usually take them back and have the problem fixed or hire another pair

Well, I'm half way there already. I'm pretty good at falling over and sitting in the snow :lol:

I just need to practise ski-ing down vertical precipices :wink:
