How cold do you like it?

We went from -20 degrees C in Val Thorens in Jan, to +38 degrees C in Bandol (French Riviera) 6 months later, last year. It's amazing to think that's a difference of 58 degrees C, and yet we tolerated it perfectly well.

I'm usually warm enough as long as I keep moving. It's when I stop that I feel the cold.

It's okay Tony, you'll be quite safe, I'm pretty useless at cooking, and I bought them

Here, we could have a big J2ski virtual party where everyone brings their favourite food and drink, and if anyone drinks too much, well, we still have that bucket ... :D :D :D

The big advantage is that it won't cost us anything and none of us will get fat so we'll still be able to get our ski trousers on :D.

What do you think of that idea?

Not at all Tony :D once was enough for me.

Would you like a piece of Panatone or stollen?

Huwcyn wrote:I find varifocals difficult, because your horizontal range of vision is very limited, and to the centre of the lens So scanning a page is a pain because you can't swivel your eyes across the page, becaue you get out of focus, and I find having to swivel my head back and fore to read a line of text irritating. I am on my first pair, and don't use them very much, preferring to use my other pair (reserves).

I am not an expert on vari-focals, but my optician seemed to think it was a matter of cost. The more expensive ones are better, with less of the problem you are describing. I can't remember why exactly now, it has something to do with the graduation between the edge of the two bits of lens - maybe somebody else knows? Anyway, I didn't buy the ultra cheap ones, or the really expensive ones, but ones somewhere in between.

A friend of mine completely failed with their vari-focals, and went back to wearing two sets of glasses (not at the same time though!).

Yeah right Ally, so you are a newbie, tuning in to J2, and right now, they are all seen to be passing cyber buckets of puke and urine around. Thinks, "This looks like a good ski site, must tell all my friends!"

Dave Mac,
It's not my fault if certain J2ski members can't stomach a bit of 'niceness' :D I'm only trying to clean up after them

Would you like a cyber piece of Christmas cake instead? I've just been out buying a very special organic, vegetarian and gluten free one, and you're more than welcome to a piece :D

I thought I was being very kind passing the vomit bucket around :D :D

In fact, I was even going to ask Admin for a bigger j2ski bucket, seeing as Ian had managed to fill it :D (but I had to go out to deliver Christmas cards and look for a Christmas tree).

I am hoping that the helpful and kind Christmas spirit will continue and more newbie J2skiers will dare to post their first message (and if anyone needs the bucket I think Ian still has it - I just hope he's washed it out now!)

Beachboy,
I expect it will be okay by the time you get out there, at the beginning of Jan. I mean, a temperature of 13 degrees C is definitely not 'normal' for 23rd December. I would say it is only a temporary 'blip' :D

They do have quite a lot of snow-making facilities in St Johann, I think they cover 45 Km of piste, so I reckon there will be some snow for you. And you can also get buses to neighbouring areas, like Kitzbuhel, if the open area isn't large enough for you.

We went to Obergurgl (very high up in Austria) the last year there was poor snow, at the beginning of Jan, and I thought St Johann wouldn't have any at all, but my daughter's school went there and there definitely was snow because they all had a great time and brought back plenty of photos to prove it.

So I wouldn't panic just yet.
