Well, at least you don't fall down.

Oh yes I do! Especially when showing off. Seriously tho, I agree with the general concensus of this thread. 1-2 drinks during the day is OK (legal UK limit or similar) then a couple of beers in the evening - I want to ski not struggle with the hangover.
Hernia operation and skiing

Hi all, I'm being sliced open on Wednesday for an umbilical hernia repair. Will I be ski fit by late February?
I know when I've had too much as I ski like a weeble the next day.

Can you imagine skiing on speed - I'm quick anyway (Sastrierre mens downhill in 3.5 minutes) but on speed - hey, I could beat the gold medal time (1.50)
For me, my feet go numb if I have the front buckles done up too tight (especially the 2nd one from the front. I keep that one quite loose but I only wear sports socks for skiing and have never had cold feet (I'm wierd). My wife uses "Little Hotties" foot warmers and they work a treat.

Agreed - I tried it once and spent the whole day on my backside feeling stupid. It's a much more demanding discipline as the upright posture is a 'dynamic' one requiring constant poise and balance whereas you can relax in skis on the gentle bits and let the skis drift (that's my impression anyway). Also, the idea of having both feet bolted together and unmovable scares the living daylights out of me.
Where to ski?

Don't go to Grindelwald. It's a shame - the resort is great but you've got 2 options:
1) Ski the First side (First is a name not a number) and accept a 2 hour Q for the godola
2) Trek over to Kleine Scheidegg (anout 1 hour) and ski there.
My choice would be to stay 1 valley over in Wengen - the beginner slopes are good but you can whizz up to the higher stuff really easily on the gondola or the train. If cash is tight, I would suggest Lauterbrunnen in the valley below. It's about 30 mins on the train up to Wengen in the morning and there's no ski in / ski out but you can chop a good few £100 off the chalet rental price. I'm booked up for there in Feb with a 5 year old (1 week experience) a wife (1 day experience) a friend (1 week experience) and his wife (non skier). I've skied there for about 20 years (probably about 15 seasons in total) and it's a great place for all abilities.
Basically, if the Piste Basher looks like this, rent your skis
