It's snowing !!

Nope, we don't have any lethal sugar snow here what I've seen. We got a very local 60-80 cm dump in end of Jan which might have saved the snow a bit. Availability - yes! All weekends booked out though, only some mid-weeks left.

Report from the mountain today: Total whiteout again and 15 cm new according to titlis.ch, but the snow was much more stable today. 39 cms so far this week, we'll see if we end up at 100+

Bluebird forecasted for tomorrow 8)

Report Engelberg:

39 cms over the past 24 hours here - the forecast says another 64 (!) in the next 7 days.

(The forecast changes very much from day to day though...)

Conditions are heavenly, but very dangerous at the moment. Several smaller avalanches yesterday. The last big snowfall in Engelberg was January 24, and it is very packed underneath the new snow.

Here is a Switzerland map over the snow, Engelberg is the left blue dot :)

Hi there,

I thought I'd share some pre-season pictures from Engelberg this year. I've been in the village since 2003, and never seen anything like this. We have skied down to 1300 metres since October, and last week added another METRE of snow. The official stats say that we are above 200% of average snowpack.

See the dark blue in the picture above? You're looking at Engelberg.

October!

October as well.

October spray!

This is Friday in the village. Saturday was epic.

This is a video from Wednesday and Thursday last week from photographer Oskar Enander: http://vimeo.com/17198675

Cheers from the pow!

Eric

Seems you had a good week LOTA - we actually got some more snow yesterday here!

About the queues, they can get ugly on weekends in Engelberg. Here are a couple of hints on how to avoid them:

- Fri/Sat/Sun, always take the first bus to the mountain, and buy your lift ticket at your hotel or the night before. There is rarely lines 8.30-8.45 If you want to sleep in, don't bother to be at the lift at 9.30, sleep in another hour instead.
- Don't take the cable car between Trübsee and Stand with everybody else, the two chair lifts are a better option, and you access the same area.
- The Jochpass side of the area has better lifts and less crowds in general.

I'd sort it out at the resort - usually they have everything you want. Stöckli has an online reservation system here: http://en.stoeckli.ch/main/locations/engelberg/reservation/ - it might save you some time!

As the others already have mentioned - Stöckli is the best place to rent skis close to the base station. Service-minded and professional.

If you are looking to head off-piste, I can also really reccommend Okey Shop in the basement of Hotel Bellevue. Dani has a good slection of K2 skis, midfat to superfat, and is a supernice guy that will guide you right.

For Apres, Yucatan next to the station will have the biggest crowds for sure. For good food on the mountain, the waited restaurants at Jochpass, and Skihütte at Stand are the best.

We update our Facebook and Twitter with snowreports regularly if you are curious about the conditions:

The snow so far has been really good this year, and we received another 20 yesterday night.

Swing by the Lodge when you're in the village!
