Glad to hear everything worked out okay in the end :D

What are you going to do with your extra set of ski gear now? Sell it on ebay?

Caron,
Well done for ski-ing down that red under the gondola. I looked at it when we were there but decided it was too steep and zig-zaggy for me. And I know what you mean about that blue. We skied down it every morning from the top of the gondola to my daughter's lessons, and it has a sharp left and if you don't notice it you go straight down, presumably to the black you were on (my daughter went the wrong way one day, until I yelled at her). I fell over on that blue, somewhere near the top, on my first morning there. It can get very icy.

Well done for sticking to the ski-ing, after the trouble you've had with your knee

How about a clue? Which country is it in?
Self Catering: is it worth it?

For the first 3 years we always went half board and ate in the hotel, but for the last 2 years we've been self-catering.

I much prefer self-catering, because you can eat what you want, when you want, and I think it tastes much nicer. I don't like hotel food - even when it's supposed to be top quality. I can remember once we were staying in a very posh four star hotel and they served under-ripe water melon. I am exceedingly fond of water melon and I was really disappointed.

I always eat muesli for breakfast - so that's no problem. I usually go back to the apartment for lunch and have a cheese salad baguette and several cups of tea, which saves a fortune on slope side cafes, and the same at tea-time. And for supper I usually cook the same sort of thing we eat at home - like pasta with cheese and pesto, salad, and broccoli - which takes about 3 minutes of my time and about 10 minutes cooking time. And for pudding we buy fruit and cakes.

Ideally, you need to try and get self-catering close to a supermarket and the slopes, so that you can shop easily and go back to the apartment for lunch.

A nice thing that most large resorts do, is to station a resort guide (a real person)at the top of most lifts by the large trail map. They advise on where to go for the type of skiing you want to do, and the real degree of difficulty.

That is a really good idea .
I wish they'd been doing that in the places I've been ski-ing in!

I expect they get pretty cold though, hanging about to advise people on the piste map.

Thanks Ise,
We were only getting the train into Geneva to go sightseeing - I wasn't really studying the train system, but I did notice that all the trains from the airport went into the centre of Geneva.

So maybe the thing to do is go ski-ing in Switzerland from Geneva on the train?
