Morning all...
If you're awake this morning you might notice the top of the page looks a little different from yesterday. We've pushed the search box and a few links to the very top of the page, and moved the banner ads up into the header for your optimum browsing pleasure. Is that it? Not quite... we've been busy... J2Ski goes transatlantic The biggest change for us hides behind the wee flags at top left; j2ski.com now has cousins in Canada and the USA, playing on servers in those countries. The US version thinks in feet, inches and Fahrenheit for our American friends who like their measurements that way - and you'll shortly be able to get your snow forecasts by e-mail in inches too. Have a nice day y'all! J2Ski goes Mobile (more easily) Well we were already... but now if you stumble onto j2ski.com when surfing with your mobile, just click the piccie of a PDA in the top bar to be taken to j2ski.mobi (it's resting right now as we wave spanners at it, but it will be updating again shortly). So will there be three forums? No - just the one, here on j2ski.com. How will it affect us? Not at all (fingers crossed). But in the event of an asteroid taking out our servers in London, the site should still be available from one of the American servers. So, even if the sky is on fire, you'll still be able to get the snow forecast for Chamonix and save €20 off your ski hire... sweet. 8) Got a Mac? The one thing we don't have right here, right now, is an Apple Mac; so if you happen to be reading this with Safari, a quick note to let us know that the new header looks ok would be much appreciated (assuming you can now surf the site at all, of course...). Crisps? Thai Sweet Chilli - no contest... Jolly good... |

Doh, forgot the link... here ya go...
http://www.skiandboardcamp.com/ Do us a favor and mention j2ski if you contact them - they seem to have the "wrong" snow forecast on their site... 8) As for level of skier - best to inquire with them but I assume they'll have quite a range of equipment on test so may be looking for a range of abilities. |

We've no commercial connection with them but know some of you attended these last year and enjoyed, so...
The pre-season Ski and Board camps will be running again in Tignes, from the 26th September to 14th December. Price is £99 which includes catered accommodation, lift pass, use of equipment (next years kit) and transfers to/from Geneva. You need to pay for your own flights but that's a great deal, and a top opportunity to blow away the summer cobwebs. |

Time Out - keep it cool and impersonal please people... 8)
Use of animal / fur products is a subject we're unlikely to all agree on, and is highly emotive. I think it best to move on from that particular subject so have trimmed and locked the thread. |

"Does my bum look big in this?" "Not any more!" Not an image I really wanted late at night... |

Les Arcs at Feb half-term will be busy and expensive. Les Arcs in April is much less busy and you've a better chance of finding accommodation at a reasonable price - snow will almost certainly be good then too. As caron-a says, Arc 1950 or 2000 would be good bets - there's at least one chairlift (serving a nursery slope of a very good length) that's free and well located for beginners. April may be pushing your luck to get good snow in Niederau.
Sorry... some of our ratings are a bit rusty... Here's what'll be on j2ski within a week or two... "Filzmoos has a small ski area of its own with easy links to many other ski areas in the area for which a collective pass is available. This makes it an ideal choice for beginners and intermediates who will enjoy the feeling of being somewhere special without the intimidation or characterless feel of a modern 'mega resort'." That sound more like it? 8) W.r.t. the February versus April dilemna... given the choice; for kids or beginners I'd probably opt for April and go high enough to be reasonably sure of snow. You're likely (but not guaranteed, of course) to get better weather in April than in February and that can make a big difference to a tired, damp child (or adult). |

Hi goose-person...
Are you looking for catered or self-catered? We list a number of self-catered chalets in Tignes on j2ski, although I think only one of them would be big enough for your group. Over the next couple of weeks we should be adding some new chalets to that list, at least some of which will be catered. If it doesn't have to be Tignes, you could look further down the valley at Villaroger; Optimumski have enough rooms but you'd need to be quick - their chalet is a short walk to the chair that takes you into Les Arcs; Tignes and Val d'Isere are around 30 minutes by car/minibus from there. |
