Quiet at the back please, who threw the paper-plane?
Plenty of people confuse grade with degrees, and almost all of us over-estimate the real steepness of the slopes we're on. The official site, linked by Tony, states the Harakiri to have an average incline of 78 percent. 78 percent is the equivalent of a little under 40 degrees. A 100 percent slope is 45 degrees - which, surprisingly, is well on the way to being un-skiable by any but the most expert skiers. [edited - ise beat me to it] |

Gotta call you on that one Tony. You've obviously had a bad experience in France but that's nonsense, sorry. Serre Chevalier would be high on my list of proper "French" resorts; not least because a high proportion of those who ski there are locals from Briancon and the surrounding villages. IME, the more "French" a resort is (i.e. has actual French people living, working and skiing there), the better it is - so long as you don't expect everyone to parlez anglais of course. 3V has some great skiing but much of it's now part of Surrey, not France. But back to the original question... good resorts for a family coming over from the States. Some good suggestions so far and I'd throw Les Arcs into the mix too; huge ski area, easy to reach other ski resorts if you wish and a wide variety of villages and accommodation to suit just about every budget. For ski in/out quality accommodation, if a little lacking in authenticity, Arc 1950 is probably hard to beat. Good snow record too. |

St. Moritz is usually to be found in Switz for sure, however...
Here are about 20 Chalets and Apartments in Montafon, (Austria) and a similar number of Ski Chalets in St. Moritz. 8) We'll have piste maps online within a few weeks too. Hope that helps. |

If you go to the SkiSet site, select your resort, shop and date and hit continue to get to the ski selector...
By default you end up with the Adult selection but can switch it to "Children" with the option button just below the skis / snowboards / snowblades tab. The kids selections go to Age 11, so I would think your 14-year-old will be considered to be a "small adult"... 8) I know SkiSet will be re-structuring their options later this month, so that may make things clearer / easier / more complicated... Oi. What's that got to do with holiday prices? Do keep up and stick to the subject... 8) ...pertaining to which... I reckon prices will go up now as the TOs try to counter the exchange rate changes, but pretty sure there'll be plenty of late deals left after our crunchy credit dampens early bookings. |
