The Paradiski ski area in the French Alps which incorporates Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne – has further improved its artificial snow network meaning guaranteed snow for the latter half of the season.
The Adret de Tuffes at Les Arcs is a new, high-altitude reservoir in the Arc 2000 ski area, which feeds the artificial snow networks of both Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry. The reservoir offers a capacity of 400,000 cubic metres, the largest of its type in France, and optimises the flow of water required by the snow cannons. Ski lift operators have taken into account environmental aspects in this project. Following on from this investment, 32 new snow cannons will be erected to improve the artificial snow cover of the Maitaz and Plan Bois pistes, between 1800 and Peisey-Vallandry, meaning an extra 3.5km [or 2.2 miles] of pistes with guaranteed snow cover. Paradiski's season continues to 25th April 2009. The area has two glaciers complete with ski lifts; three peaks rising to over 3,000m; 260 miles of runs; 209 hectares covered with artificial snow (579 snow cannons); 242 runs for all categories; 98 miles of cross-country trails; four snowparks; four boardercross courses and two half-pipes. Perisher has the highest snow-making of any ski resort in Australia and combined with summer trail preparation on Mt Perisher; the resort's network will be better than ever before this coming winter.
The resort has invested $5.7 million dollars with new snowmaking covering the Happy Valley area and top to bottom on Towers Run, as part of Perisher's three-year $19 million dollar investment in snowmaking upgrades. This extensive work, including significant rock removal on the popular Towers Run, will improve skiing and boarding experiences throughout the season. Due to a good run of weather and a hard working team, the Happy Valley expansion was pretty much finished prior to Christmas. Perisher is now well on its way up Towers Run on Mt Perisher, with only about 200 metres to go before they reach the top. For the expansion 8914m of piping was laid, 68 new snowguns installed taking the resort total to 271, 10.68 more hectares covered and the highest snowgun will be operating in Australia at 2,036m above sea level. Runs with snowmaking include Towers Run, Snowy Trails, Happy Valley T-bar, Crossroads and A line Front Valley. |

In the Italian weekly magazine “Panorama” the organisation notes that the sources of renewable energy in Italy are increasing and that Selva Gardena is in first place with an average of one square metre of solar panel coverage per habitant. The magazine lauded the resort as a leading light in the installation of renewable energy and publicising the community's responsibility towards nature and environment. Courtesy of and © Snow24 plc |

An annual study of lift ticket prices charged by more than 500 ski areas in 35 countries worldwide has reported that prices for British guests are well up this season to most international ski destinations.
The findings are published as part of the World Lift Ticket Price Report 2009, the eighth annual edition of the Report by Scottish based independent research company Snow24. The Report compares the cost of a six-day, high-season, non-discounted ticket bought in resort in hundreds of resorts around the world including off-the-beaten-track ski destinations like Argentina, China, Iran and Romania. Following years of having the highest lift ticket price inflation in Europe, Andorra retained its position as the most expensive country for lift tickets in the continent with a 6.8% rise in the average ticket cost in Euros to 190.50 Euros. For Brits the weak pound meant that prices actually rose by a much greater percentage of 28.8% to around 172 pounds for a six day pass. Coming on top of a 19% rise in cost for Brits spread over the previous two seasons, it means that Andorra's lift ticket prices have risen by nearly half over the past three years for British buyers. Courtesy of and © Snow24 plc |
