Thanks very much Eggman,
You're not worried about me pushing you off a chairlift and smashing your head up against a wooden wall then :?:  Seriously though, I might well be looking for some ski-ing companions for the 11/12 ski-ing year. I will let you know next year :D Ally |

Well ...
I think, if I was Bandit, I'd forget about putting my ski boots in my hand luggage, and I'd bring: One life-raft One life-jacket One oxygen mask plus oxygen bottle One parachute One emergency radio and beacon One emergency flare Oh ... and one apple without a maggot in it  Seriously though, Bandit, I'm sure the aeroplane will be fine, like Tony says, and I hope you have a great holiday and come back on here and tell us all about it :D Ally |

Ah, yes, Tony,
Next Feb I shall be in Courchevel, but after June of next year my younger daughter will be leaving school, and I will be able to ski any time and any place I like :D :D And I might quite like going to St Gervais ... Don't worry, I will fill you in on my travel plans well ahead of time, so you can avoid any mountain that's got me on it  Ally |

Thanks Eggman and Salski,
That's another thing to remember - if I decide to go to Megeve, I should go to St Gervais instead (and get the Mont-Blanc Skipass?) :D :D Ally |

Hi Dustyfog,
Thanks for those kind words (and no laughter, that I could hear anyway) :D My instructor only videoed me as a favour - it wasn't really included in the group lessons, and he was using someone else's camera, so I don't want to be too critical about his wobbly hand. In fact, I feel a bit guilty about it, because the video of me used up all the video memory in the camera, so that the owner of the camera (who came down next after me) never got videoed at all. I don't think the slope was all that steep, although it's hard to tell in the video because the instructor was standing well up the bank to the side when he videoed me. At a guess I would have said it was no worse than a hard blue, or an easy red. I tried looking at the video of your son when you first put it up, and I couldn't get it to run. I suspect that our broadband speed is too slow. I live in the sticks, miles from the telephone exchange, and broadband is a bit problematic. I could see those markers though, on the still of the beginning of the video. I think they're a very good idea for training purposes. Congratulations to your son for being so talented and working so hard at his ski-ing. I appreciate how hard it is on the rest of the family, as well. Both my daughters were in our local swimming squad, and training was 2 hours per night, four times a week, and then galas at the weekend (although they never got good enough to enter the inter-area competitions). I well remember parents having to spend all weekend at the side of a pool somewhere, stopwatch in hand. And I suppose it's much the same with ski-ing, except that it's a lot colder because you're waiting for hours outside in the snow up the top of a mountain somewhere. Best Wishes, Ally |

Tony,
Maybe he's not being sarcastic, and he really does mean 'heroes'. I knew an old WW2 fighter pilot once, and you wouldn't catch him wearing a seat belt (before they were compulsory I mean). And I'm not exactly a hero, but I simply can't stand wearing a bicycle helmet. In my time I've biked hundreds, if not thousands of miles around London - including round Hyde Park corner, Marble Arch, even accidentally once on the M4 (a long story) without one, and without any sort of accident. I love the feeling of the wind on my hair, and the sense of freedom I get from being on a bicycle. If bicycle helmets ever become compulsory I might just give up riding a bike. It wouldn't be the same at all. Whereas, for some strange reason, I don't object to my ski helmet at all - in fact I've become quite fond of it during the course of my week's ski holiday. Maybe it's because I've always skied in a woolly hat, whereas I've always gone bare-headed on my bicycle. Just do what you want to do, on the ski helmet issue, Tony, and don't worry about everyone else. Unless helmets become compulsory the choice is yours. Ally |

I don't get why anyone who wears a helmet would look down on someone who doesn't. I mean, whether or not someone else wears a helmet doesn't affect your own safety, unless of course they forget they're wearing it and stand too close and turn round quickly and klonk you with it  Ally |
