I have never locked my skis and I've never had them stolen. But then, I always hire skis and maybe hired skis aren't so attractive to thieves?

I'm sorry you can't come to Sauze Dave, but I hope you have a lovely 30th birthday (!) party in Niederau :)
And thanks for your kind words re organizing the group holiday. Several people in the group help with this. Last year, for example, Ian organized the minibus taxi transfer between Verona and Folgarida. And this year several people helped with researching different resort and hotel holiday options. As of yesterday, Crystal still had 6 rooms available on the 11th January in the Sauze hotel, where the group will be staying in Sauze d'Oulx. If anyone else wants to come would they please let me know, and if they need a room buddy we will help them to find one. The basic price with Crystal is £525 per person for the half-board hotel, flights and transfers. |

No, sorry, it's quite a lot of work organizing just one trip. I hadn't thought of doing two! But I'm sorry you can't come on that date :( If anyone else wants to join us on the 11th January, Crystal still have rooms available in the Sauze hotel ... |

2 more people (one J2Skier and one friend) have decided to come, and they've booked with Crystal to stay in the hotel Sauze with us :)
There are still rooms available with Crystal, if anyone else wants to join us :) One advantage of going with Crystal is that they have more flights available than we can buy going direct. So, one of the new people is getting direct return flights from Bristol to Turin, whilst the other is flying from Manchester to Turin. That makes 23 people in the group now :) |

A long Journey ? Venice to Ponte Di Legno (Passo Tonale)?

You know something, SwingBeep, you are totally amazing!
I had no idea how to find that time-table for the bus from Male to Passo Tonale. And you're quite right, it says the bus only runs from 8th December to 6th April. I was worried about that ... I suppose if he was determined to go that route he'd have to get off the stop before and get a taxi - which might be quite expensive. Plus, the time-table is littered with 'only on holidays' etc. We booked a taxi from Folgarida to Dimaro (only about 10 minutes) on a Sunday and it cost 25 euros, but the taxi driver very kindly said he'd take us on to Male (which is a bigger station with a cafe and things) for the same price. And I expect it would have cost even more if we hadn't booked it ahead of time. I looked at the link you provided for that train time-table and it says it takes 4 hours from Mestre to Edolo, with a change at Brescia, and costs 40 euros one way, and there's a train at 13-02 and another one at 15-02. |

Hi PowderManDan,
I think the Male route will be OK as long as that coach is going. I couldn't find anything about it, except that it's meant to be there! I went from Male to Verona airport, and I've still got the time-table for the Dolomiti Express. You have to be careful with the time-table because some of the trains don't run on Sundays etc. I had to get help from the manager of our hotel in Folgarida with this, as the taxi driver told me the train we were aiming for didn't run on Sundays! Luckily the taxi driver was wrong. Which day are you travelling on? I think the trains that don't run on Sundays are the ones marked with a square. The Dolomiti express station at Trento is about 200 yards from the mainline one, on your left as you come out of the station. They sell tickets for it at this little station, and it only costs around 4 euros. They have a special carriage for people with skis, but a ski bag doesn't fit in the rack, as it's meant to be a daily ski commuter train. There are indirect trains from Venice to Trento, via Verona, as well as the direct ones. And some of the trains from Verona to Trento are slow ones, which take about 1 hour and 40 minutes, as compared with the fast ones at just over an hour. Don't forget to stamp your ticket on the platform. I was surprised at the time-tables on the wall in Verona - they have the platform marked on them, so presumably each train always comes into the same platform. Best of luck! |

Thanks SwingBeep. I'll make a note of that website :) I tested out the Google Maps public transport route planner for Verona airport to Folgarida, and it was spot on - it had the route I'd used, which the Folgarida tourist board had advised me was the best way to do it :) |

It wouldn't be so bad if you drove from Venice airport. It's only 3 1/2 hours by road. Other than that, maybe you should try cancelling that booking and try somewhere else? |
