Try a squirt of Mr Sheene, it's got quite a high silicon content I believe. It works wonders on my squeaky motorbike boots.

I've just seen the Lidl brochure for the gear they're doing from next Monday. I might get the helmets for the kids (as they're mandatory on their school trips) plus the kids goggles look great for £5.

Just got my lad of 14 kitted out with ski gear from Next using their home delivery service from the catalogue. It meant we could order a few different sizes and pick the best and send the others back. Really impressed with the quality as well.
Apparantly Matalan will be doing a ski range this year as well which will be launched soon. |

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to start a thread that would cause any heated debate or controvosy! I appreciate all the opinions and advice given and have taken it onboard.
I guess I've struggled with the concept of how important it is to have boots expert fitted based on the experiences of hire shops in resort where you get no time and even less help and advice!!! I've always skiied OK with these hired boots, but as said earlier have had to ramp the catches up to the tightest possible over the course of teh day to get some sort of control over my ski's  I've decided to get a pair of boots from Ellis Brigham, spending plenty of time with them to get the right boot, and ski in them as supplied by EB for the next trip. After spending a week in them I'll decide whether to go for custom footbeds for the next trip or keep them as they are. This saves a bit of cash on the initial outlay and gives me the opportunity to really take note of issues with the boots while skiing with them. Thanks again for all the advice, it's much appreciated. |

Boots loosening up after 5 weeks use is not a concern really due to the amount of skiing I'll be doing. I'm certainly not going to buy some now that won't be comfortable for 5 years!! Having said that I'm after boots that fit right and allow me to ski to the best of my ability, I'm not expecting slipper like comfort and am more than happy for them to be slightly uncomfortable if they're aiding performance.
I'm thinking that I might now be better off just getting some from Ellis Brigham at Castleford and not worrying about the custom fitting at Profeet. Will Ellis Brigham set up the canting properly for me as well - I assume thats what needs adjustment to get my skis flat on the piste? |

Thanks for the replies. I'd be comfortable spending £300 or so but that limits me to Profeets cheapest boot, and if that's not suitable then the budget would be blown! I'm more than happy with last seasons designs, which is what I assume the on-line places are selling off cheap.
I guess I'm after champagne boots on beer money   I live in North Lincolnshire so a trip to Profeet would be a one off!! |

I'm looking to get a pair of boots ready for this season's trip, having rented for the past few years. I always end up having my hire boots as tight as they will possibly go to get the best feel from the skis, and put up with the inevitable foot numbness and shin pain! I also noticed this year that when skiing straight ahead on a gentle slope, and with my feet/legs in a comfortable position, the skis weren't flat on the ground! From what I've read so far, custom fitted and adjusted boots will help alleviate these problems.
Having said all that, I have to operate within a budget and am concious that I can only get away for a week a year for the foreseeable future so wouldn't benefit from anything top of the range. I'm wondering whether to get my feet measured in ski socks at somewhere like Ellis Brigham to get my mondo size, then buy some new boots off eBay (eg Head Edge 10.8 at £80 new), then get custom insoles made up for them at Profeet. Would this work OK, or do I just stump up the full £350 minimum to get boots supplied and fitted at Profeet? |

Hi everyone, newbie here!
I've just got back into skiiing a couple of years ago having started when I was 12 years old and skiing most years until I was 20, but then had a 21 year break before starting again  I've got right back into it in a big way (and my wife and kids love it as well) and am looking at booking up for next year. The question is, what's the skiing like in Austria at Easter - we're looking at Muhlbach in early April during the school easter holidays. |
