It's not to do with remodelling, it's to do with poor piste bashing. The piste was maybe 2.5 piste basherers wide and the outsides had been done first followed by a final bashing down the middle. This left a 8-12" rut either side of the central bit.

I like to be objectively with my comments remarking on the 'states' of the pistes compared with others at other resorts. Regarding 'discouraging slope users with limited ability' - is that not somewhat elitist?

Simply put, slopes should be flat (well groomed -rut free), lifts should be working, runs should be open. That's what I pay for and probably the majority of others do too. If you want uneven then go off pisting.
A quick update, went to Montecampione yesterday. Not overly impressed. 4 of the 6 black runs were closed, a couple of the reds. All the pistes needed grooming as none were flat and most were very icy. Easy enough to hire skis if needed, a couple of reasonable cafe's scattered around the mountains. Lifts were old, 2 broke down in the same valley leaving me stranded for 20 minutes. IMHO Foppolo is far better and a couple of euro's a day cheaper.

Passo Tonale - intermediate and family
I think he means 1hr 45mins
Hi,

Foppolo is very good. Its relatively small with all the runs spread out over a fairly large area. Pistes are very wide. There are only a couple of black with mainly red and blue runs. Plenty of places to hire gear from. Ski passes are roughly €25 per day with discounts for longer stays. Accomadation wise, TBH I don't have any details as I live in Milan. There are a number of hotels nearby (ski in and out) I would look for hotels that provide residence (a hotel room for several people that is self catering) Google "hotel residence". Milan is about 1hr 30 mins from Foppolo (Bergamo probably 1hr). Accomadation will be cheaper in Bergamo and the Alta city is fantastic. If your boys are reasonable skiers then then its suitable but anymore than 2-3 days and they will have done it all. PM me if you want to discuss further, but not back until 2 feb.
Hello all!,

My first post but maybe able to help. I live in Milan and am planning a trip this weekend to Fopollo. If anyone wants prices etc please drop me a pm or skype me: stevecoxuk. I have been to a couple of resorts here as below:

1. Passo tonale - fantastic, 100km of pistes - prices reasonable easy ski hire etc
2. Val Palot - brilliant for kids (you cannot loose them). Think of this as a 'village resort' One slope splits into 2 about 3-4 km of pistes + nursery slope. Very cheap, €100 per day for 6 people, ski hire + passes inclusive! Lessons are €38 per hour for 1 person, €40 for 2 etc. If you have small kids and want them to learn while you ski - go here (I spent New Year there and recomend it)
3. Monte Campione - expensive - purpose built but runs are not brilliant.
4. Fopollo - don't know yet! will on Friday.
