Ok, I think everyone has had their say on this one - with some fair points well made - so I'm going to close it here and go and have some lunch while I think about the rating system... bon appetit!

Les 2 Alpes has announced it will open for the summer from June 16 to August 28. The ski lifts are open 7 days a week, from 7.15 am to 12.30pm for skiers and until 4.30pm for walkers and mountain bikers with fast access thanks to the "Jandri Express" cable car.
Les 2 Alpes is home to the largest skiable glacier in Europe, set between an altitude of 2900 metres and 3600 metres and boasting a 700 metre vertical drop. It also offers more than 80 other activities to guests in the resort in the summer. There are 90 hectares of ski runs with four blue, two green and two red runs, as well as a freestyle zone and off-piste area. There are 16 ski lifts operating in summer (compared to 51 in winter), including two gondola lifts, a cable car, four chairlifts, seven drag lifts, a snow tow and a funicular and an inclined lift. Les 2 Alpes offered summer skiing for the first time more than 40 years ago; a brave move that was to put the mountains, and more importantly the resort, well and truly on the map as a summer destination. On average, 3 000 skiers take the lifts up to the glacier every day to enjoy summer skiing; this represents 138,284 skier during summer. The Italians represent 40% of the resort's clientele. The sports shops provide ski and snowboard equipment rentals, just as they do in winter. The ski schools are also on hand to provide tuition during the summer months (around 50 instructors, 10 ski schools offering skiing and snowboarding lessons, competition skiing, national ski diploma training, slalom, freestyle, mogul training…). Summer skiing is open to everyone and beginners can discover the sport on the glacier with its gentle descents and wide open slopes; perfect for learning to ski or snowboard. A summer skipass provides access to the summer ski area, as well as all tourist ski lifts (walkers and mountain bikers). For adult this 33.50 for one day, for under 13s or over 65s €26.80 or free for the under 5's and over 72's. A half day pass at reduced rates is also available. Alternatively a full holiday pass that gives unlimited access to summer ski and walker's lifts plus additional services (swimming pool, ice rink, tennis courts, archery, golf driving range, water sports and summer toboggan) and preferential rates on many other activities is available for 6 days at 167.50€ for adults and 134€ for those aged under 13 or over 65. Next time can we have a rear-facing cam too, Dave? So we can see the skiers you're holding up by poaching their lines...  |

With the introduction of Ski Cross to the Olympics in Vancouver last month that talk of the Games, the next generation of ski cross racers will be tasking to the slopes of Les Arcs in the giant French Paradiski region for The GMX race on 28th March.
The Gavaggio Master Cross will in fact, the resort believes, be the first ever ski-cross event for youngsters aged 11 to 14. Enak Gavaggio, a multiple winner in the sport, will be spearheading the event and passing on his experience to the kids at this unprecedented contest. More events follow in Paradiski including the return of the Winter Urban Plagne to la Plagne from 31 March to 2 April 2010. This unusual concept for a ski resort event mixes urban style with snow sports and includes an exhibitor village, ski testing, demos and a giant ice bar. You can bring your tired looking skis or snowboard and graphic artists will give them a full redesign. The event that mixes urban style with snow sports. Then in Peisey-Vallandry, the traditional village between La Plagne and Les Arcs in Paradiski, stages an Agricultual Fair on 21 April 2010 to close the season. The event will showcase the area's local producers including animal breeders, farmers and craftsmen who will be exhibiting, selling and making local products at the event (with demonstrations in traditional dress. The Fortress Investment Group LLC which owns Intrawest, which owns the leading Canadian resorts of Mont Tremblant and recent Olympic venue Whistler, is reported to have reached agreement with its creditors to extend the time it needs to refinance its debt to mid-April.
Previously creditors had threatened to put some of Intrawest's assets up for auction in the middle of the Olympics, following the company's failure to make a final payment on a $1.4 billion loan in December. The company, which was bought by Fortress at the height of the property boom in 2006, sold its two European developments at Les Arcs and Flaine in France last year and more recently one of its North American resorts, Panorama in British Columbia, Canada, for an undisclosed sum earlier this year.
