Its a good few years since I was in ADH but I did love my trips there. The skiing is great and very varied. The Sarenne run is a must do. Apart from the initial pitch, it is not particularly challenging but a lovely long run through the mountains with no lifts or anything else to disturb the serenity of the area. The tunnel is a real challenge - didn't get around to it and not sure my knees would handle the moguls now  .
I seem to recall that it was possible to get a helicopter transfer over to Les Deux Alps for relatively modest money - could be an interesting excursion . In the village, my memory was that the Piano bar upstairs in the complex beside the ice rink was very pleasant with some good live music - a pleasant change from the overcrowded, noisy "Oirish" bars, etc. However, it is very definitely a French bar and a different vibe and high prices - not a place to go on the batter  . They have a nice outdoor public swimming pool that was included in the lift pass, though they do insist on Speedo type trunks for the gents  . Back then, there was a nice restaurant at the bottom of the town called the Petit Creux. Not cheap but it was very good quality. Enjoy guys  . |

If the temperatures do remain that high, you will probably get the classic freeze thaw conditions which may well make the slopes a bit icy in the morning and turning a bit slushy later on. Given the height I wouldn't expect this to be a huge problem but you might need to be selective about when and where to ski the different areas. As a general rule, it is better to head over towards the Swiss side early as it is South facing and will soften up quickest. As the day progresses, make your way back to the Ischgl side which may have been icy in the morning but should now be in much nicer condition. If it is that warm, the home run may well be particularly horrible by going home time - think large wet slushy moguls with lots of skiers struggling, some them of under the influence  . Might be wiser to download on the lifts  .
As for apres-ski, I suspect it will still be heaving  |

I know we have had numerous topics covering snow chains and snow tyres. However, my recent experience has left me wondering when do you need to put on chains. Smart alec answers like "when it snows" not required .
Basically, I faced a fresh fall of snow on my way back to the airport from my recent trip. While the road had been ploughed in places, there was still a covering of compacted snow on the surface. Thankfully, traffic was very light and I was able to keep going on the winter tyres but only at a very slow speed. There were one or two very slight slides but nothing of any consequence. In terms of other road users, I would estimate that about half had put on chains but obviously, I don't know if they had winter tyres. Any thoughts on whether I should have put on the chains? Or is it a case that you can keep going as long as you can keep going without them? |

When I saw the headline, my first thought was - crikey, I hadn't heard that Qatar had won the Winter Olympics    . Of course, it would be about as sensible as awarding them the World Cup

Hi Joan
Basically, a 6-day pass for the entire Super Dolomiti area will cost you €270. The more limited Cortina area pass can be had for €251. See http://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/cortina/ski-pass/prices/prices-dolomiti for more detail. Essentially you have to decide if you will want to venture beyond the immediate Cortina area. If so, it will cost you an additional €19 but opens up the vast Super Dolomiti area  |
