Verbier: The higher central areas are open currently - that's Attelas and Lac des Vaux. Apparently there's a 50% discount on passes this weekend. Tale a look at http://www.verbier.ch/index.cfm?Langue=En for more information and access. It looks like the télécabine up from the big car park in the valley at Le Chable to Verbier isn't running, so you'll have to drive up. But check this.

Do you have winter tyres on the car? I think they may be compulsory in Germany (would someone care to confirm?). Snow chains are OK but most other cars will have their winter tyres on, especially in the mountains. Remember that winter tyres are still good to have back in the UK as they're as much for colder weather as they are for snow.

Yes, it was hand-held. That's why I fell at the end! In front of an entire restaurant full of people. The main advantage with holding is that you absorb the vibrations better, and can pan. But a headcam or skicam would be a lot easier, and safer on difficult runs. I thought I might try a helmet cam this winter ..... msej449

In La Tzoumaz, the Hotel de la Poste has half-board, shared bathroom at CHF 75 /day but I don't know if that's too much for your budget?
Up the mountain, the Chez Simon restaurant also has rooms, shared for CHF 38 /day including food. and you're halfway up the slopes at a height of around 1850m You'd have to contact them and be prepared to share a room with 3-4 others, but the location is right up the mountain. The Cabane du Mt.Fort is another high mountain hostel with stupendous views. Rates are CHF 92 /night but there may be discounts. |

Take a look at a lovely run I enjoyed on the last day in La Tzoumaz, Verbier, from under the summit at Savoleyres (2050m) down to the Chez Simon restaurant.

Just FYI, I got an email today from the Swiss Tourist Office to say that the new winter transport timetables will be available from 9th November, so you should be able to plan a public transport itinerary for the winter season, as of next week. Go to www.sbb.ch As I said, we usually use the 'Swiss Transfer Ticket' offer - this gives you a discounted return rail journey from one 'point of entry' e.g. Geneva Airport to a single destination and is only available to non-Swiss visitors.
