EFA = Edited For Accuracy

Ok... you may not get the best out of St.Anton unless you're happy on the steeper stuff or heading off-piste, and it's not the cheapest place to be. Niederau is likely to be too small and quiet for you. Don't know about Ischgl but Mayrhofen may suit you well... for which our resident expert is "Tony the Taxi" who'll be along shortly... 8)

Your timing's good though; quiet slopes in January and good deals to be had.

Hi, welcome to J2Ski...

EFA 8)

You need to tell us about you - what level of skiers / boarders? What sort of slopes do you like? Is "kicking Apres" a requirement (it's something to be avoided for some people...)?

If you're extreme skiers you'll love St.Anton and hate Niederau; if you're beginners you'll be the opposite. Both St.Anton and Val Thorens are more expensive than most places in France...

And when are you planning to go? Some resorts are horribly crowded in school holidays, some cope much better...

So, what are you looking for in a resort?
Snow-Camp, a registered charity supporting over 600 disadvantaged young people in inner-London by providing a combination of snow sport and life- skills training, has launched a fund-raiser it has called the Everest Challenge.

Participants in the 150km endurance event gives snow sport enthusiasts the opportunity to fundraise for Snow-Camp by skiing or snowboarding over a set 150km course over two days. Participants - which Snow-Camp hopes will exceed 60 people - will be guided through a range of peaks and valleys. The course includes a night ski/board stage and a night mountain hike, flights, accommodation and food

The event hopes to build on the success of the organisation' first Everest Challenge which raised £35,000 in January 2010. Next winter's event will be held from the 27th to 30th January in the Portes du Soleil ski area, which straddles the French / Swiss border.

A launch event earlier this month hosted by Graham Bell, Olympic skier and BBC co-presenter of Ski Sunday raised £8000.

"It's going to be an incredible event, with skiing and boarding from dawn until dusk! We'll finish the challenge no matter what the weather or the conditions. We hope it's going to be even more demanding and fun than the first Everest Challenge." said Snow-Camp Director, Dan Charlish.

The Everest Challenge is open to all competent "red slope" skiers and snowboarders. It costs £185 to book a place on the event (including flights, accommodation, transfers and ski passes). All participants must commit to raise a minimum of £1,500 for Snow-Camp's work.

Engelberg no longer offers summer skiing, but the famous Swiss resorts does now stage an annual Ice festival on the eternal snow of the Titlis Glacier.

This year's festival takes place on Sunday, July 11 and for a flat rate entrance fee participants can try lots of activities on snow – except skiing and boarding.

The glacier party runs from 9am - 4pm in the Titlis Glacier Park, 3,020m above sea level. Adults pay 41 Swiss francs to take part, children aged under 15 are free of charge.

Activities on offer include airboarding – sledging on an inflated airboard sledge, a guided glacier walk to Gross Titlis at 3,239 metres above sea level; abseiling down glacial crevasses, snow tubing in the Titlis Glacier Park and a treasure hunt in the snow.

It'd be a crack... although the addition of a water sport would be more fun IMO! Probably just about any summer skiing resort would let you bike and golf in the same day - but how about windsurfing or kayaking? 8)

Mammoth Mountain in California, which is still offering snow sports, recently began their summer biking and golf operations and have launched the Mammoth 3-Way Challenge.
"Have you lived the California Dream and skied and surfed in the same day? It's time to take it to the next level. The Mammoth 3-Way Challenge is like nothing you've experienced." said a resort statement.

The resort's special '3-Way ticket' costs $99 and allows holders to ski Mammoth Mountain, ride the Mountain Bike Park and play nine holes at Sierra Star golf course.
Purchasers are also entered in to a prize draw to win a set of TaylorMade golf clubs, Cannondale mountain bike, some K2 skis with bindings or a Burton snowboard with bindings. But the offer is short with the ski season finally coming to an end on July 5th.
