However, when your children have reached GCSE and A level stage, as my two have, it's not realistic or appropriate to take them out of school.

We've been seriously struggling to book our New Year trip this time round. I think demand has been outstripping supply and the cost uplift in Val d'Isere for that week is crazy. In the end, we gave up and booked a self catering apartment in Zermatt. Much better accommodation at a lower cost. I think the resorts popular with the UK market are probably seeing an upsurge in bookings, perhaps due to better economic conditions?

Looking forward to going back to Zermatt again, particularly in cooler conditions.
The bus from geneva to Val d'isere is more like 3 to 4 hours. We've managed 3 hours using a private transfer.

Nice to see the wibble thread being used again.

Did a bit of grass seeding yesterday evening. It's all happening here in Lincolnshire.
I think this is piste 7 after just crossing over into Cervinia from Zermatt. Approx 3,400m. A beautiful day!

Hi peeps.

Easyjet have just released their winter 2014/15 flights.

I've booked our new year flights - prices were changing before my eyes!!
I'd second Zermatt (have a read of my recent trip report).

Skiing is not too tricky. You can stay high if the conditions are too warm down at town level. However, bear in mind that the highest piste is up at 3,900m - the altitude can be an issue for some people (like my wife....). There is plenty going on in the town. Might be worth trying to stay half board as it is not a cheap place (or maybe self catering).

We used Stoked for our lessons (and boot adjustments). They were brilliant. Ask for Ismael!
