I think this thread has run its course for now and am icing it.

This is a subject that requires greater clarity from the insurers, without doubt.

Bandit's original post highlighted a policy that supposedly covers off-piste skiing but not when "skiing in any level of avalanche warning". That's clearly nonsense.

All we want, as recreational skiers, is to know - clearly - what we're insured for with a particular policy, and what's excluded.

I suggest further developments in the enquiries being made elsewhere are reported in new threads, and I will reconsider re-opening this one once folk have cooled off a little.

No, just be prepared to be flexible. 8)

We did exactly this a couple of years ago and, although not really a full-on ski holiday, it worked quite well. You probably don't want to go too high with a mixed age group TBH so just go expecting to enjoy Spring conditions.

We were in La Clusaz which you could consider - La Balme is high enough to retain good snow well into April, scenery's great and village pleasant. The seniors can ride up to restaurants on a couple of different mountains and hop on the bus to the other Aravis stations, go snow-shoeing, visit Annecy for the day, etc.

Chamonix might suit but you'd need to be careful about exact location in the valley to ensure you can all get around ok.
You're all most welcome... figured it was time to wake the house!

Dave - you need 4 more pics of ski celebs being awestruck in your presence...
This evening we announced some competitions to open the 2010 Ski Season here on J2Ski.

If you missed it, check out Your chance to win Ski Accommodation and Skis.

Everything you need to enter is now in Your Profile, which you'll see has been refreshed a little to make it easier to work.

We hope to bring you regular competitions throughout the season; they'll be announced in the forum and whatever you need to do to enter will appear in your profile area.

Post any questions on the competitions here... get in!
To celebrate the dawn of winter, or at least to cheer us up as we look forward to it, we've got three competitions to find winners for.

1 - Win a GBP500 Interhome Accommodation Voucher

Those fabulous folk at Interhome are offering a voucher worth 500 of our finest British Pounds, redeemable against a Chalet or Apartment rental through Interhome this season.

What do you have to do to enter? Just hop over to your Account Profile (links to the left) and press a button. For this competition, you will need to give your email address to Interhome but they promise not to send you lots of spam and you might win that voucher.

2 - Win a pair of Rossignol S80 all-mountain skis

Deep in the J2Ski stationery cupboard we turned up these brand new, 2011 model, Rossignol S80s. 175cm in length with a width underfoot of 80mm they're ideal for going anywhere on the mountain.

Rossignol pitch them with a 60/40 Piste/Powder ratio so if that sounds like you then enter the comp...

What do you have to do to enter? Just hop over to your Account Profile (links to the left) and press a button. No need to share your email with anyone else... we've already got it.

3 - Warren Smith Ski Academy DVDs - Lessons 1 thru 4

And just to round things out, something to keep you busy in the Autumn.

What do you have to do to enter? See above...

One thing we do ask for the competitions is that you fill in the Name fields in your profile. We won't pass that information on, ever, without asking you first, but it will allow our mail-sending robots to address you by name in future. How nice. 8)

So get in and win.

And if by chance you're not yet signed up to J2Ski, then you obviously need to be.
Guess who I bumped into today....

New Quad For Superbagnères
Started by User in Ski News, 1 Reply
French ski area Superbagnères, above Luchon, has announced it will install a new quad chairlift, the Arbesquens lift, this winter, increasing capacity ad uplift speed on the route.

Superbagnères is a friendly and traditional ski resort nestled in the heart of the French Pyrenees close to the border with Spain but only 90 minutes from Toulouse.

Set on a natural plateau at 1800 metres, Superbagneres offers great viewsdof the Luchon Valley below and its spectacular mountainous backdrop. It takes eight minutes to reach the slopes from Luchon by gondola, or it's a 17km drive by road.

The resort centre, Bagneres de Luchon is a charming village with elegant Napoleonic architecture with the Luchon Superbagneres gondola from the resort centre. The resort is home to the Forme et Bien-Être fitness and spa centre, numerous restaurants, cafés, bars and discotheques and a casino.

Nah, just run off 20 copies and take all your mates - what could possibly go wrong? :D

Alternatively, photocopy it once, give the copy to Tony and pretend not to know him when you get to the door...
