It's all very interesting :D

I think in future I will try to avoid womens skis and get either mens or the unisex sort. I nearly always have to buy mens shoes and clothes because womens don't fit me, and I rather think the same thing may apply to skis as well.

P.S. It might be quite a lot of fun if we all had a go testing out both the womens and mens versions of the same skis

Sm4sh,
I'm awfully sorry, it seems we forgot to tell you about getting fit to ski. There's a thread on here that's been running for ages.

Pavelski,
I asked for mens skis on one occasion for myself. The men in the ski hire shop looked horrified! What actually is the difference between mens and womens skis?

Thanks Kathy, that's good to know :D

I don't intend to buy myself a pair of skis, but if I was going to I'd go to one of the decent hire shops on holiday, hire a pair of skis, and ask them to do a deal where at the end of the week I either bought the skis minus the hire cost or said 'no thank you' I don't want to buy them. And that way, if I didn't like them much to begin with I could swap them for another pair until I found some I liked.

I reckon you have to ski on them for several days in different conditions to be sure they really suit you.

Hi Sm4sh,
I'm glad you had a good time in the snowdome :D

You really ought to go back and practise falling over and getting back up. If you're pretty fit you should be able to learn how to get back up quite fast, but it's surprising how many struggle with this (including me - in the past!). You will definitely fall over at some point and you don't want to feel helplessly stuck like a stranded whale

Where to ski in march?

billip wrote:Hi Ally: You mention La Rosiere; I've been thinking of that resort for a second trip this season (went to Niederau early Jan). Is that the place where you can ski across from France to Italy (or the other way round..)? What was your experience of it ? Thanks for any info.

Hi Billip,
I'll send you a pm regarding La Rosiere. I wouldn't really consider it suitable for late season ski-ing because it gets a lot of sun and the lower slopes go slushy, which is fine if you can get out of the sun and over to La Thuile in Italy, but not so good if you can't. We were just very lucky with the Easter snowfall that year.
