Story here:

At 11.30am this morning, the franc has strengthened 14% against the pound.

That's not going to help their ski industry!

Can't remember how much it was. Maybe 3 CHF! (we were 3,900m above sea level!) In any case there is no point going to Zermatt and worrying about the price of mountain food. We took a big pile of swiss francs with us and spent the lot! Easily 100 to 125 CHF per day on the slopes for a family of 4.

You only live once :D

We're currently watching fireworks from our apartment in Zermatt whilst working through a bottle of toffee vodka. Can't be bad!

Wherever you are, have a good 'un.
Winter Tyres - Watch This - Buy Some!

Big thumbs up for winter tyres from me. We've been using them in the UK for the last 5 years, swapping over at the end each winter back onto summer tyres. We use them on our main family car, an Audi A6 Quattro. It's a pretty decent combo as the car has a lower centre of gravity than large 4x4s. It made life a lot easier for us on Saturday morning on the drive down to Luton airport. we had a lot of snow for most of the trip down from Lincolnshire but we were able to maintain a steady 40 to 50 mph. I'll post up some video when we get back home. we were passing lots of cars doing half our speed.
Where is all the snow?

I can imagine how bad a road journey would have been today. we were lucky to have chosen the rail option from Geneva. Traffic on roads near to the railway line looked to be moving very slowly.
