Snow Forecast Summary - 1st December 2011

Yet more heavy snowfall has been reported from North America, with some West Coast ski areas reporting up to 1 metre of fresh in the past week.
The overall situation in Europe has not yet changed (but see below), although some Scandinavian resorts reported some decent falls this week. In The Alps, the best conditions remain to the South of the main Alpine ridge with Cervinia opening 1,500 metres of vertical. Elsewhere the SkiWelt and other resorts in Austria have delayed their openings, although cooling temperatures have allowed more snow-making here and in France. European Weather and Snow This Coming Week It does look, at last, as if the snow drought is about to break. Temperatures and pressures are forecast to fall this weekend, with light precipitation in many areas through to Monday. Scattered and light snow showers are possible across much of the region, with snow falling as low as 1,500 metres from Saturday onwards. After the weekend, the freezing level across most of The Alps should fall further - perhaps to 1,100 metres by Monday evening - and the forecast models are indicating heavy snowfalls in many areas by then. At present the heaviest snows look likely to fall to the Northern Alps, although the forecast will change in detail as we go through the next few days. Further bands of snow look likely to pass through the Alpine region later next week and significant local accumulations are likely. Resort Cameras We now include over 3,000 web cams on our pages, and will be adding hundreds more over the next few days - so drop in to J2Ski regularly to see where the snow's falling! |

Totally agree. They often do an amazing job, up the mountain in the dead of night.
I've tweaked the title of this thread; perhaps we could post replies when we see impressive results appearing on the webcams? |

As soon as it's consistently cold enough! (which it hasn't been so far - at least in the valley). Temperature is forecast to take a step down on Saturday so I reckon you'll see snow-making kick into action then, to lay the beginnings of a base for the snow expected on Monday. In fact, I think some of the webcams are going to make for some quite entertaining viewing over the weekend - reckon we'll see the piste bashers working overtime. (this is, of course, "entertaining" for us - other people might not understand the excitement...). 8) |

Keep the faith, Matt.
Assuming you're reasonable skiers and looking to ski above Argentiere you shouldn't be considering cancelling. The latest outputs from the major forecast models are encouraging... check back here tomorrow afternoon when the weekend's weather should be clearer. Tomorrow's weekly email will be going out late in the day so we can give you the latest... |

Received this morning from SkiWelt...
We'll be updating our pages to reflect that shortly. |
