When the lift workers went to dig out the bottom station of the Kumme chair lift after the recent storm they found that it wasn't there anymore.

This is how it used to look

And this should give you some idea of what was swept away

Built in 1982 it was the oldest detachable chair lift currently operating in Switzerland

The Tourism Observatory Valais https://www.tourobs.ch/fr/ recently carried out a study of second home ownership in Valais https://www.tourobs.ch/media/149628/juillet_ovt_r2.pdf might be worth a read. Since the Swiss voted to introduce a law restricting the construction of second homes the market in Valais has stagnated, at the moment the market is very much a buyers' market.

If you decide to buy in France and are going to need a French mortgage you need to get your skates on, as after the end of March 2019 the amount you will be able to borrow from a French bank will fall from 80% to 65%.

I can't see why an insurance company wouldn't pay for the helicopter ride, as at CHF 70 per person it's cheaper than an extra night in Zermatt. Anybody with Crystal will be on a Saturday to Saturday package, come changeover day everything will probably be more or less back to normal.

The shuttle trains between Täsch and Zermatt started running again at 17:15 and the line between Täsch and Visp should be back in operation tomorrow.
There are hardly any lifts running in the entire region. An avalanche hit an apartment block in Sestriere last night, fortunately nobody was injured.

I think the last time we something like this happened was in December 2008.

It's caused by a 'Guggiföhn', a south easterly air stream that brings moist air from the Mediterranean which hits cold air over the western Swiss alps, this results in a lot of precipitation (snow) over a short period of time.

NS = Precipitation

The weather should start to clear tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday looks like it will be sunny.
