Well I LIKE Dave Mac and I'm sure there's nothing wrong with Niederau either - some of my friends keep going back there year after year and they love it.

So, I hope he's having a good time in New Zealand and gets back soon to the ski-ing in Niederau and Obergurgl and wherever else he's going and has a great time :D

Really? I was finding it quite interesting. Until Trencher pointed it out I hadn't thought about a bit of snow jammed under the boot altering the cant. All I do is try to get enough snow off the undersole of my boot so that the binding will do up. I can see now that I will have to knock off even more of the blasted stuff!

My daughter and I tried out the Scott Maya and Rosa skis in Tignes for 3 days after a heavy snowfall. She got on OK with the Mayas but I really disliked the Rosas because they felt too soft and flexible and they were unstable when I was travelling at high speed. I much preferred the skis I hired this year - which were men's Dynastar Contact 4 X 4's which have been adapted from GS racing skis but are OK in the powder as well (not great but OK).

And I noticed this year that my male ski instructor put on Scott Maya's after we had tonnes of powder and he said they're pretty good skis for the powder (although I never did find out why he was on women's skis - I did wonder if he'd pinched his wife's skis!).

So I don't really see why it matters whether you pick male or female skis - what matters is finding a pair of skis that suit you.

3 Valleys Lift Pass

Well I am quite interested in how those very clever P&S cards work.

I was very surprised at something that happened to me last time I was ski-ing. I bought a ski pass just for the Meribel valley (because it's a lot cheaper than the 3V pass), and then the ski instructor said that the following day we'd be going to another valley. So I bought a one day extension to the 3V pass. But then we didn't go so I went back to the office to cancel it and change it to the following day, but the woman said it would work okay.

And the following day, when we did ski to Courchevel, my pass worked perfectly.

So, I am wondering if the start date you buy the pass for doesn't actually matter and it just goes from the first day you use it. When you re-charge the cards on the internet they always ask you for the start date. But if my theory is correct then if you turned up a day late you'd still get the same number of days on your pass. Has anyone tried this?

And I think it's very interesting that P&S cards for other resorts will also work. I didn't know that and I bought a new card for the new resort, so I wasted 3 euros.

I have started kicking bindings after I nearly took out someone's eye when whacking the underside of my ski boot with my pole to remove the compacted snow stuck to it.

I find it works much quicker (for me anyway). So I am now much faster at getting my skis on and off as I stamp on my bindings to get them off and scrape my boots on my bindings before putting them back on.

If it's a choice between causing grievous bodily harm to human eyes or ski bindings then I'm going to pick the bindings every time to whack and scrape

Brides Les Bains

I have a 3 Valleys piste map and it says that Olympe 1,2, and 3 that travel between Brides Les Bains and the centre of Meribel shut at 1730.

I have thought about getting a cheap holiday there myself, but I reckon all that time wasted each day travelling up and down would drive me completely mad.

And it's at 600m.

I don't do running at all thank you! Way to much like hard work.

I don't know, I quite enjoy jogging around the resort first thing in the morning, in my ski boots, with all the other 'student's, keeping in time and singing daft songs like the American forces do and following the instructor who jogs at the front holding his skis up in front of him like a flag
