It sounds as though, for you, you've had a ski rebirth after 50! You're only a tiny bit older than me and I'm still really enjoying my ski-ing. And I'm one of those who appreciate your advice on this forum. Thanks a lot :D Congratulations with making the effort to understand the new ski equipment and techniques. And it's nice your wife is so supportive even though she doesn't ski herself. I do think it's important to make time for yourself and really enjoy yourself especially after you've spent so long helping others with their ski-ing. I like wibble so I'm no judge of whether your post was too wibbly or not - but I enjoyed reading it. Thank you :D Ally |

We stayed in the centre of Meribel over New Year and it wasn't really that expensive for the 3 V's, but it wasn't exactly luxury accommodation. 4 person S/C apartment Maeva les Ravines = £750 Eurostar direct out cheap day back night luxury seats = £189 p.p Return bus from Moutiers to Meribel (3/4 hour) = £20 Cost per person for 3 people = £459 I did notice that the snow on the lower slopes was a bit like crushed concrete - quite hard to ski on. Presumably that was because it was melting a bit in the day and refreezing at night. So if it was like that when you were in La Tania I shouldn't think Little Snapzzz would be that keen on ski-ing back down, but you could always take the gondola. But the slopes weren't overcrowded until the night of the big storm after which half the pistes were closed for a couple of days. And because the apartment was so close to the piste we could easily ski back for lunch, which saved us a load of money as the mountain restaurants were really expensive, and crowded. 1. How to ski in deep powder - managed to do 4 James Bond style bounces before it all fell apart.
2. What it feels like to ski on a really decent pair of skis - Dynastar Contact 4X4's. 3. That French people can behave very oddly at times - there was a French DJ in a big bubble playing music for a motley crowd of various nationalities to dance to in the snow on the Chaudanne in Meribel. 4. That the Russian Christmas is celebrated on January 7th according to the old Julian Calendar, whereas we use the Gregorian calendar. There were loads of Russians celebrating Christmas Eve on the 6th and it felt pretty odd :shock: 5. What a car cemetery would look like - all the cars buried in snow with just the tips of their wipers sticking out :lol: 6. That the New Year's Eve celebrations in Meribel continue until 8 O'clock the next day - there were still drunks struggling to make their way along the street when I was having my breakfast :lol: 7. What monoclonal antibodies are (daughter's revision). (Maybe think of some more later), Ally |
