Hmmm well my first thought was "thats not bad" but i suppose when you have to pay £25 per hour at Tamworth i suppose it would look a good price.

My train of thought is do you really want to spend all day in a snow-dome ??

Well, yes i agree with that 100%.
I cant think of anything more tedious but....... If i had a long drive to get there and wanted to spend a full day off learning new found skills it would be ideal.

Derek N wrote:Jon,
Forgot to mention on my previous reply regarding ADH, if you are skiing on the Vis Alpe pass it allows a visit to Serr. Cev. on the same pass at no extra cost(also les Duex Alpe). The only costs will be for the bus there and back which runs daily from ADH.
Hope this helps
Derek

Yes many thanks,

I have pretty much decided on ADH, i am just looking for a decent sized SC apartment, most on offer by the TO's seem to be rabbitt hutches!
Being able to ski Serr Cev is a plus too as i love tree lined runs, which seem to be abundant out there.

Thanks again

Wanderer wrote:I they take a very rigid approach and will have no qualms about failing a kid at the end of the week

They FAIL kids? Fail them at what? You mean they have a set curriculum and your kids can go on holiday and FAIL at the weekend?
That is total bo****ks.

I would never put my daughter in a ski school that would do that.

My family are there for fun. I don't care if she hasn't reached a certain set standard although i do like to see her progress.
In Arinsal she only did three days of ski school, learnt the snow plough and could turn only one way. She got a certificate and a medal that stated how well she had done.....even though in reality she did pretty poorly.
But she certainly didn't FAIL.

Who do they think they are?

Anyone been to La Plagne lately? what are the conditions like- heard it hasn't snowed for a while?

not going until 26 Feb so hopefully there will be fresh snow by then

thanks

I came back two weeks ago.
High up the snow is fine, low down it is ice.

Take a look at this webcam of Champagny:

http://webcam-ski.com/interfaces/champagny/interface.php?pk_interface=399&m=images&r=panoramique#depart

The workers are doing a good job keeping the lower runs open but it is mainly ice and man made snow.

I wouldn't worry about it. I really fretted but in the end had a wonderful time. La Plagne is huge and will have more than enough runs open to keep you busy.
You will probably have a huge dump by then.

OldAndy wrote:I've been avoiding suggesting Courchevel, as it unfortunately has a reputation as being very expensive (which I don't think it is!) but the area above 1850 is a beginers paradise.
And as long as you are not skiing too late in the season there are lovely tree lined runs down to 1550, Le Praz and la Tania (plus all the other delights for better skiers that 3V offers).
I don't know of a protected (fenced off) green area bigger than Pralong anywhere and there is a whole variety of gentle skiing below Les Verdons to enjoy.
What I particularly like about Courchevel is the ability for mixed groups to enjoy their skiing without being too far apart, so meeting up is simple. A good skier can dive off for half an hour and enjoy themselves before rejoining the novice.
And the novice can get in some quite long runs without worrying about getting stuck somewhere awkward.

I never really looked at Courchevel because of the cost but upon reflection i see a mass of Greens.
Thanks, i will investigate further.

Thanks everyone for the comments, i appriciate it.

I think it will be either ADH or Soldeu.....plenty of time to decide.
Its a shame they have limited SC apartments of any decent size.
How do you handle skiing on ICE?

Plenty of "whooooaaaaa's' being called in La Plagne the other week. They try to hide the ice with a dusting of man made snow but it really catches you out. I would prefer to be able to see it rather than stumble across it unexpectedly.
That man made stuff on ice is like sand on a sheet of glass, you can dust it off.

I find that most ice patches tend to be mid piste and are fine if you just traverse over them and turn at the edges where the snow tends to amass. But by a few days of it i just pointed my skis down hill and just ignored it, when you feel it begin to slide mid turn i just pushed my edges in harder.

Like previous posters have already said......Sharp Edges, thats the key......Mine were nice and razor like, even hacking up my brand new TNF sallos :-(
