Goggles

Do you wear a helmet? If yes, I consider it fairly important that both helmet and goggles are bought at the same time (or you take along your existing helmet when choosing new goggles). I bought a new helmet and goggle combo 3 years ago and must have spent an hour trying on all sorts of different combinations and manufacturers until I got the best fit.
Åre in Sweden in mid-February

Everything being equal I would choose the Alps over Scandinavia. However, we are restricted to Christmas. Feb half term or Easter because of school holidays. For the Alps accommodation costs are heavily loaded for Feb half term and the airports and transfer routes are super busy. It's interesting that there is very little price difference for the Feb half term week in Sweden. We have booked a private log cabin (in the resort), premium ski hire, ski passes, car hire, local flights and two extra nights in a posh hotel in Trondheim for £1000pp. Amazing value for money.

Ranchero_1979 wrote:My opinion Trondheim sort of latitude, mid Feb is a month early. Lived in Norway for 3 years and is a bleak, dark, cold country between Oct and March, if you venture that far north. For sure will be quiet as not even the Norwegians and Swedes will be venturing out.

A little melodramatic perhaps....

We skied Hemsedal in December 2010 and I do remember hearing scandinavian accents when in the resort! I agree the days are short in Dec and Jan but the sun still exists. I think these photos were taken on Christmas Day 2010 in Hemsedal.

Excellent...and a bit more to come I think. We just need a bit of sun in 4 weeks time and we'll be sorted.
Christie's ski poster auction

Interesting auction coming up:

Judging by the reserve prices, I wish I had a few of these in the attic......
We did a bit of real estate window shopping over Christmas and spotted this:

http://www.valdinet.com/property/for-sale/4p293-val-d'isere-centre-672795

Apparently it was previously for sale at £12M euros, now down to a more reasonable £9M.

I was interested but ultimately dismissed it as it only has 4 parking spaces. I'd much prefer 5 spaces.
Insurance ( lack )

We're now insured annually with the ski club of GB, specifically as they allow off piste. And I don't mean a kilometre off piste. We wouldn't do that without a guide but we will venture a few meters to maybe a 100m off piste as long as we can see a clear route back. We have insured with Dogtag previously but only for winter holidays.

Going on holiday without insurance is insane whether it's a week lying on the beach in Spain or a skiing week in the alps. I really don't understand it.
Moguls

Good spot Daved. Maybe Ranchero published an 8 point guide, then a 7 point guide, then a.....

Bedrock Barney & moguls = not a very good mix. I have issues with speed on steeper inclines which I know all comes back to my skiing standard. Might get some lessons when in Sweden next month.
