I'd like to do one of his one day courses before our ski holiday in January, if I can fit it into my busy schedule.

Now here's a very smartly dressed man (Lord Foppington) who'd look great on a board or on skis (not sure about a bobble hat or helmet though)

Oh, if we're allowed to be as rude as Trinny and Susannah, that's different  If, for some reason, I actually LOOKED at a skier wearing a bright orange jacket over bright purple trousers I would assume they were either colour blind or had bought them ultra cheap at the end of the sales because no-one else wanted them  However, I definitely do not know anything at all about what is or is not fashionable or expensive. Many years ago I remember wondering why my friend and her husband were squashing their kids into a tiny car which had the boot where the engine ought to be, because I thought they earned enough to buy a decent 'proper' car. And it was only after they'd gone and my Dad said 'nice Porsche' that the penny dropped  |

Hi Icy, I hope you have a great time :D |

What I am trying to say is that people should just buy and wear what they want to, and not worry about what anyone else thinks.
I'm fine both with people who want to buy the latest fashions, and those who have ski gear 20 years old etc. etc. In fact, when I'm ski-ing I never notice what anyone's wearing anyway - except that if someone in my group lesson has a very striking jacket, for example, it does help when I'm trying not to lose the group  |

I reckon there's no such thing as 'good taste'. It's purely a myth to persuade us all to spend more money than we ought to by making us feel anxious and insecure if we buy anything that's 'out'. The things that are 'in' are generally far more expensive and difficult to obtain than the things that are 'out'.
I mean, apart from anything else, it varies historically (with time), geographically, and between socio-economic groups. I buy according to quality (i.e. whether it will last, wash etc.), function (must be fit for purpose), fit (mustn't be so tight it busts when I bend over or so loose it falls down), and price (I generally buy the cheapest stuff but not always). And I only buy when I actually need to replace something, because it's bust, or I've lost it, or whatever. |

Really? I thought Nelly was talking about a sort of reverse hibernation, where she was going to hibernate all summer until the snow had come back, and I was going to tell her she still had a long wait ahead of her, unless she wanted to go to Chile or Australasia  |

Hi Felthorpe, yes it's amazing how fast this holiday is approaching - it won't be at all long now until we are wondering whether to ski down the black La Sache run back to the chalet, head for the red one, or chicken out and take the blue piste
We now have 12 J2Skiers and their friends and family booked into 8 rooms in the chalet, but there is still plenty of room left in the chalet if anyone else wants to come with us :D I haven't managed to find anyone yet to share with Maggie, so if there are any females who would like to come with us and share with her would you please let me know. |
