It is being reported that the ski areas in Canton Graubünden in eastern Switzerland will close from 06:00 on 16.3.2020 (Monday) until at least 30th April.
This has now been confimed by the cantonal government. |

The head of the Communicable Diseases Division at the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health as just announced that he expects that the rest of Switzerland will soon follow Canton Ticino's example and declare a state of emergency if this takes place it is likely that all of Switzerland's ski areas will close.

The situation is Austria very dynamic, today the government decided to start closing schools from Monday. In Tyrol there have been 15 new cases today, one for them is a ski instructor and it has just been reported that the Tyrolean regional government has decided to close the ski lifts at Ischgl for 2 weeks from Saturday https://www.krone.at/2115472
Here in Switzerland the number of cases continues to rise. This afternoon Canton Ticino declared a state of emergency and introduced a number of restrictive measures including the closure of the ski areas. |

Francesco Boccia, Italy's Minister for Regional Affairs has just announced the closure of all the ski resorts in Italy from tomorrow.
The trigger for the action seems to be an aggressive marketing campaign by Abetone, a resort in the Apennines that sought to attract students. |
