cwagner wrote:Thanks for some beautiful pics and such an honest and in depth re4port on Niederau. We too are off on 7th Feb there and after reading this we are looking very much forward to our trip. My only concern is that my two small ones will be spending m,ost of the day in the shade??? it was mentioned that the ski school works from an area that is not in the sun?? Any advice on how many layers to put the kids in or would we be better hiring an instructor to take them up to the other areas that are in the sun? both of them are in their third year skiing and can competently travel easy runs with us but as my 12 year old will be in Kitz with her school I thought it would be best to put the younger two in ski school so they keep up with her when we meet up in Kitz after our stay in Niederau. Any advice appreciated - Jan???

If your kids are 3rd year skier`s then they will be skiing up the Markbachjoch in the sunshine.

Welcome to J2ski :D Thermals are pretty important items of clothing, and inferior kit can ruin anyones' enjoyment of their holiday. Best kit is reckoned to be Icebreaker. Mid range is HH. Budget option is Trespass/Dare2B/Aldi etc.

If you are after a bargain, especially with growing children, and are in the UK, get along to a TK Maxx soon. I picked up some Falke thermals from there recently, for one third of the full retail price.

I have some of extremely expensive X-bionic stuff and it's only just OK. The very best I have right now are a set I bought from Aldi which are absolutely fantastic, 20 chf each for top and leggings, however that's the mens stuff, the womens version was fairly poor. There's no reason at all this stuff shouldn't be as cheap as chips, the stuff Aldi has is as good as it gets. Mostly anything's good as long as it's not cotton really.

Ise Aldi have some Merino wool thermals in at the mo for £ 14.59.

Hi Karen, There is a local swimmimg baths down in Worgel, But you can use the swimming facilities in the other hotels for a nominal fee.
We also hire sledges from Eric at the Margerieta and do our own thing rather than pay top dollar with the tour ops for tobogganing.Hope you all have a great time.
