different injury for me, sustained playing football, anyway for a long time i'd been thinking i need to do yoga as used to be real flexible and now at 35 not so bendy. been going for 6 months now and not felt so good in ages, loads of good leg exercises in there for skiers and boarders. builds good strength and better stretching helps avoid injury in the first place. plus i'm one of only 2 guys at my session. highly recommended

How young can you start to snowboard?

chatting with a paramedic in italy this winter - an ex italian stunt skier himself - said he reckoned 12 was the age for snowboarders. based on seeing many snowboard and ski accidents.
not that i haven't seen much younger, very good snowboarders myself, but he reckoned bone structure and the whole being strapped into one board thing was probably not too good for the skeleton until it had matured sufficiently. imo the best snowboarders have skied to a good level first, then convert. whether they should go back or not is up to you but there's a lot for both parties to learn from each other. the paramedic dude did mention the biggest favour you could do your kids (boarding or skiing) would be to buy them a back brace thing. A good point i reckon though i have never worn one myself. |

@finn, wickers. the winmdscreen wash freezing up was the only problem we experienced. tightly gripping the steering wheel, trying not to wipe the windscreen as it just smeared the road salt everywhere. having to pull over every 45km, hand clean the windows then start again. great great journey though and would do it again for any trip lasting more than 10 days.
If anyone interested the vw transporter, chunnel costs, petrol from cheltenham to north italy and back with 2 people on the way out, a fair bit of driving whilst there, and returning with 5 people and what looked like tons of luggage came to £545 all in. Brilliant economy. less than hiring a decent vehicle for 2 weeks. i think the real economy came in making sure we had the emptiest tank possible for filling up in Luxembourg at 82 pence, yes read it and weep, 82 pence per litre. Off to tignes - by plane - in a couple weeks. Going to geneva though ( i know but original plan was Morzine ) and hire car co. saying we have to have snowchains. I am in agreement over this as but was planning to take my own as don't want to pay out 40 eurogroats to hire more. anyone know if they'll be happy with the fact i have my own?? once again, thanks for all the help before we went. |

little ski - have you heard of IBAN transfer? almost all small hotels will take deposits made by iban, likewise car rental places. if the train thing really is too hard, take the hit on the discount and just buy it at the first train station you see.
contact a small hotel in resort directly - use a website like tiscover - get up early or stay up late and ring and speak to them. or email 20 in the same night. try to get a translation in the local language but also put what you want, clearly, in english too. if its german language they will almost certainly have some english anyway. french language love you to try, it amuses them. if you try 20, or more, afterall it's only copying and pasting. you will get some responses. also you will have a good idea of the price already so only write to ones that you feel you can afford. no german or french? stick it in google translator, they will have a right good laugh. once you've got it booked, ASK THEM about transfers. they will have something, even if it's paying their eldest son to pick you up from the airport. btw i've only ever needed to do numbes like that if i happen to be going at a major holiday like new year or fasching/pancake day! once you've got the hotel sorted it's all downhill from there. either hire a small car from whichever airport you plan to use or look into local bus transfers. cars are cheap and much more flexible. good luck. get the hotel where you want to be then it's easy. they WILL help you. |

i'd be high end, exclusive. someone gives you aggro in a lift queue you can call me. not enough curry on your currywurst, the same.
4 people makes all the difference when you're hiring cars, travelling to/from airports in the UK, sharing ski bags on planes, etc. doesn't make a stroke of difference in organising hotels etc but then they're already reasonably priced when you deal direct and save them costs in affiliates and or agents. god knows where or what (!) i would be staying in for £25 in the uk with DB&B whee in Europe it's easy. pay a bit more you get a bit more but we're all there for the snow aren't we. if when the rate comes back will be even better |
