Prolapse disc and skiing
Started by User in Ski Fitness, 12 Replies
Hi all,
My wife had prolapse disc surgery 2 weeks ago and had a disc shaved and everything is going well, but we wondered if any other members has had similar surgery and is there any possibility that she will be able to learn to ski in January?
Thanks for any advice
Ian

Coop wrote:It's a bewildering choice really. One minute I've convinced myself Niederau is where we are going and the next minute I'm considering Flaine or Alpe D'Heux!

But Niederau it is...going to book it on Monday so it's one less thing to worry about.

You know what though, I haven't been skiing for over 10 years and I can't believe how much the cost has gone up.

Through Neilson we got 7 days at Alpenland in Neiderau 16 - 23 Jan for £1190 which is for 2 adults and 1 5 year old, it also includes a lift pass for myself. My wife has back surgery on monday so not sure whether she will ski or not and my son will get free lift pass cos he is under 6. We are booking ski school there which is 145 euros each for 24 hours of lessons (to make sure we get the "Reds" ski school as Neilsons didnt know which ski school they used) and getting ski hire from skiset as it works out cheaper for us.
Only downer is flight from manchester at 6 in morning as we live in midlands.

We went there this year and it is very good for kids. I was all for trying a diff resort but my wife wants to learn there providing her back is better.

Have fun

Hi Tony, I was a total beginner. I just wanna learn so much more but will have to wait till next winter now I guess.
I have just looked at some video of myself and can see the improvement over the 6 days of ski-school. I didnt progress as quickly as the the other newbies so never got to do a red run, but I loved skiing off gondola to restaurant and then up t-bar and back to gondola.

Only wish I had started skiing years ago

Got back from Niederau last night and am now addicted to skiing as his my 4 year old son.
Hotel Harfenwirt - fantastic
Niederau - Stunning
Reds ski school - Patient and taught me basics of skiing, even though I almost quit on day 2.
Everything about holiday I loved. Thanks for all useful info on this forum, I hope to get to join in more.

Never been skiing or boarding but have decided to try book lessons on sunday in Niederau woohoo.

Bands played on - Saxon
Blitzkrieg Bop - Ramones
L.S.F - Kasabian
I'll stick around - Foo Fighters
She sells sanctuary - the Cult

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
Killing in the name of - RATM

Also most things metal or indie

hi I am a newbie here, well have been lurking for a few weeks+ lol.
My OH and son (4) are also staying in Harfenwirt for a week on 31 Jan. We are non-skiiers only due to finance though but love mountains and snow. We got married in Salzburg 5 years ago so already love country and people. Hoping for record snowfall while we're there lol
