I reckon this person should stay in America by the sounds of what they want. Skiing in places like Verbier and Zermatt is hardly for the faint hearted or beginners, so maybe they just think Switzerland looks gorgeous (which it is).

ISE you said yourself that those resorts were not ideallic for this person, and you are right. So maybe its time for them to lose the hang up with Switzerland.

No I didn't, we were comparing a handful of places.

My suggestions would be forget Switzerland altogether, and look for a resort irrespective of nation where this looks the most likely. From what I know, this would lead me to suggest:

La Plagne (France)
Les Gets (France)
Val Thorens (France)
Serre Chevalier (France)

VT I have been to, Serre Che I plan to, and La Plagne and Les Gets are places friends of mine have been to recently, and I know they will offer what this person is looking for.

I am sure there are plenty of others, but thats my suggestions to be considered.

I have actually been to all four of those places, travelling across the Atlantic to visit them would be a real waste of time and money with the possible exception of SC maybe.

Offering a comparison of places you've not been with other places you've not been might not to be too helpful really.
An 0430 start by head torches again, this time we're climbing the Blanc de Moming first by skins then on foot as it gets steep. It's on this climb a minor disaster strikes and I shear a hinge in my boots. I've got crampons on and it's not a problem climbing the ridge or skiing the good snow on the other side. There's three climbs today, 810m, 350m and 570m with a combined descent of around 13000m. It's just utterly exhausting stuff, we're on the mountain for 12 hours and climbing into the Tracuit hut I'm just running on empty.

The ascent of the Blanc de Moming was exhilarating, just a pure adrenaline rush and a fantastic ski down in more amazing snow.

I think I must have missed a bit there :D which bit of this can't it offer ?
In summary, we need:
Accomodation: condo, sleeps 4 (to our self). Intermediate pricing, not tooooo expensive, but realize you get what you pay.
Skiing: beginner and intermediate, not too far from condo, and easy lift access.
Night life: no need
Town / village: Things to do off-slope days
Transport: close "to do other parts of coutry exploring"

This was one of the easier days, but it was pretty special, climbing Mont Durand was excellent and the ski off was superb. We're still two days from the objective at this point though :D

Leaving the hut at 0500, head torches and sparks flying as the skis contact on rocks in the dark, we climbed to col Durand above Zinal, made a ski depot and switched to ice-axes and crampons to climb Mont Durand at 3714m. From there a ski down the glacier on col Durand under the Pointe de Zinal and Dent Blanche in glorious powder.

A pretty full on day, about 10 hours on the mountain with about 1500m of climbing.

PS. the name means "Sky Tour" as you're pretty high up, over 4000m at the top and most of the time at 3000m or more

There's a great website describing this route at http://www.haute-route-imperiale.ch/

We started out from Zermatt on Thursday afternoon for a short skin up to the Schönbiel Hütte in good weather enjoying the scenery and being watched by the local wild life :D The hut was pretty busy, it's just perfect touring conditions right now and about the best conditions I've seen all season.
