Lifties on strike at Les Deux Alpes!
Started by User in France, 13 Replies
We understand the lift crews are striking today in L2A...

Whilst not wishing to judge, as we don't know the reasons, this would be pretty surprising any time, let alone half-term.

Anyone out there like to comment? Or any info as to why the strike has taken place, and taken place now???

When it comes to snow reports... I believe everything and I believe nothing. I suspect everyone and I suspect no one...

Not been there myself but it's popular for school trips (Interski?) so I'd assume it must be good for early intermediates.

I do know someone who's there this week, so will point them at this thread...
Here's another useful link, Le Dauphine keeping a rolling commentary of conditions...

Live Traffic from Le Dauphine - February 13th 2016

In tabloid fashion they've totalled all the current jams and have a figure of 160Km of blocked traffic... but that is across a couple of dozen separate jams.
A quick update, and reminder for tomorrow's travellers...

Pretty much ALL major routes into/out of the French Alps are now heavily congested :-

Check http://www.autoroutes.fr/en/Realtime-traffic-information.htm

And http://www.savoie-route.fr/

Chains are REQUIRED to access the majority of resorts; if you don't have chains you're unlikely to be allowed to leave the valleys (if you get that far).

Rain has helped road conditions on the major routes, although snow has fallen to low levels in places.

Forecast for Sunday 14th

Check the forecast for your local area / destination but we expect the snowfall to continue through the night and into tomorrow - with colder temperatures tomorrow bringing the snow lower than today.

Traffic should be lighter tomorrow, but snow will be more of an issue so - again - plan your journey accordingly; if you have a plane to catch leave early.

There is now very high Avalanche Risk (Level 4 to 5) across the French Alps and tomorrow morning may see occasional resort road closures while sections at risk of avalanche are made safe.
And as if that's not enough, here's his summer sport...

For pure, wonderful, insanity... meet Jean-Yves Blondeau, "Snow Transformer"...

Jean-Yves, we are not worthy!

Gareth - just go hire some; you can get a current model that's been recently serviced and ask the guys in the shops what would suit you. You can have a day or two noodling around with no commitment beyond the hire cost then.

You might find them fun for a day of something different, or maybe a bit limiting as Ranchero says... but I'm sure you'll enjoy finding out. 8)
