Just back from Obertauern and was extremley shocked to see that appx 99% of sausage munchers wore a Helmet ....... I really was in the minority.
Back up most of what baldy said really, I have never skied the Milky Way so I shall look forward to joining the group again this year ..... Can I add most people know by now that I go out of my way not to mix with the Brits whist on holidays so last year was a bit of a toe in the water for us ..... But I can honestly say I had a great time met some great people of all ages ( people seem to think it is just a geriatrics only trip)
And all my lot enjoyed it and I had to twist the wife's arm to go last year and she wants to go again, people can post as much negativity as they like as I don't really give a monkeys toss, as I know where I am going next January ....what about you .

Julief wrote:Actually we did get over : we skied in different places and did get over from la ros once: I'd stay on la thuile side with the excellent value Aosta valley lift pass in future- covers la thuile, pila, champaluc, cervinia, courmayeur, and one or two others I think!

Yep ... good news did you find the restaurant a really traditional Italian place, I had mountain sausages with polenta, and Mrs W had Venison stew which she said was excellent.

Julief wrote:I've never skied anywhere like la rosiere in terms of allowing skiing to continue in extremely dangerous high winds. The lift pass staff continue to sell day tickets regardless and it is impossible to be aware just how bad it is until you have gone up the first chair. We bought day tickets for 4 of us; all expert skiers with 20 wks experience, only to find the worst and most dangerous wind blown, hailstoning conditions and it was nigh on impossible to ski downhill due to uphill wind. We went straight back to the lift pass office but faced a blatantly arrogant flat refusal for a refund or even a partial refund. I have since sent a written complaint, only to recieve a most condescending response from the resort director.
With regard to la Thuile, yes the skiing is superb but the link is open less than 50 percent of the time - I tracked it all through January - and that's where both the great skiing and the much improved service is.
I cannot recommend la rosiere at all after our experience!

Nice restaurent at the Petit st bernard pass ...Shame you did not get there -)

Baldy, I do not insist she wears one she has to wear one by local law and when she is over 14/16/18 where ever we go the choice will be hers, but as she has never known any difference I would think she will continue to wear one but the choice will be hers ..... Come on baldy liven up :D
