Smartski, I may well be wrong, as I'm not a qualified ski instructor, but I don't think the kids get taught different techniques.
However, I do reckon they get taught by different methods. The kids seem to just follow their instructors with very little verbal instruction and learn by copying and example, whereas most of the adults prefer to understand what's going on. I mean - it's not much good telling a young kid to lean like they're on a motorbike, or to start talking about centrifugal force, or friction etc. etc. But I'd have thought, myself, in a family situation the instructor could cope with that, and find some sort of middle position so that the kids don't get fed up with long boring instructions they don't understand. The kids I have seen generally just want to get up and go :) And speaking as a parent, it is pretty sickening how fast the kids learn to ski :-) What I find particularly annoying is the way they seem to bounce when they fall over - they're down and up in the flash of an eye - whereas the middle aged parents (like me) tend to be stiff and unflexible and lie on the snow groaning and unable to get back up  Best of luck with the private lessons :) |

MattSki, I bought it on here: http://www.skipass-tignes.com/ I think they said allow 10 days for delivery outside France, and mine took about a week to come. It was most impressive because they'd sent it recorded delivery! I suggest you have a careful look at all the different passes on offer. It can be quite bewildering! In the end I bought the Espace Killy one with the Tignes loyalty pass that costs 10 euros lasts 3 years and allows a discount every time you recharge the pass. I reckon because I'm ski-ing for 2 weeks in Tignes this year I will save 18 euros, and more if I go to Tignes again next year :) They also have family passes, pedestrian passes, reduced ski area ones, and the one that Far Queue was asking about which gives a daily discount on lots of different resorts in the same area as Tignes. |

Icy, I should think you can buy the Carre Neige from the lift pass office when you get there. Even if you could buy it on its own on the internet now I don't suppose it would be worth it, if you've got a mean bank like mine, because you'd have to pay a fixed currency conversion charge for using your card. But if you pay in euros when you get there you won't have to.
I suppose you could send them an e-mail and ask them. I sent the Tignes lift people an e-mail about their lift passes and the carre neige and they were very helpful :) As long as you have a receipt saying you've paid for the Carre Neige then you can wave it at the rescue/ambulance people (should it become necessary) and they'll agree to rescue you without stealing your skis or asking for the money in advance in cash ;) |

Icy, you can buy it on the internet with your lift pass - like I just have :) |

Smartski,
When we were in group lessons with ESF in La Rosiere they deliberately kept the family groups together, for those over 13 years old. There were loads of people at our level, so the instructors decided to divide us into 2 groups, and it wasn't until afterwards we realized that they'd done it on the basis of parents and kids - because everyone in our group was either a parent or one of their kids :) And it seemed to work out very well :) The French seem to be very keen on families ski-ing together. But I suppose it might not work so well for younger children - I don't know. Are you going to try and get private lessons for your wife and 2 daughters? |

Thanks Andy - yes it's a lovely photo isn't it? It took me ages to get the angle and focus just right  I seem to remember you inviting me to ski into your chalet on the 20th January, after I've finished straightlining it down the Face run, as per Admin's instructions  http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/16/13223.page See you then - and make sure you have a cup of tea ready waiting for me - I like it fairly weak with plenty of milk please :) My ski pass arrived in the post today :D I've never had one like this before with my photo on it, because it's the special Tignes loyalty ski pass which entitles me to a discount every time I re-charge it for more ski-ing time, and it lasts for 3 years :D |

Hi Huwcyn :)
I think there's a lot to be said for having a good laugh. Have a look at video number 5 of me on here, in a lesson with Inside Out Ski-ing in the Hemel Hempstead snow dome. I'm being dragged down the slope by my partner using 2 ski sticks tied together as ropes, one in each hand  The instructors managed to keep me happy and challenged for 4 1/2 hours of ski-ing on an easy very short slope in a snow dome - and at the end of it I was totally exhausted! I mean, have you ever tried side-slipping on one leg? So I'm quite sure you could manage to achieve the same on a blue piste in resort :) Best of luck, and I hope you both have a great holiday :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-TXHBLByFs |
