The horse tow at Lagazoui Picture taken 23-Feb-2017 This was just posed to test out Admin's slick new snow report facility in case anybody is wondering why it is being put up now. Hopefully, I will have nice fresh photos to post in a little over 3 weeks, though it will also be from the Dolomites ;-) |

...... another extremely useful facility that may not survive Brexit
Sounds like you had a concussion as part of your injuries. As a matter of interest, were you wearing a lid? |

I would be inclined to go with the private lesson option - I think at the stage you are at, you will get more out of it than in a group lesson where the instructing will be largely generic with little personalized attention.
Not sure how the costs would work out but, if possible, I also think it would be better to opt for 2 x 2 hour lessons on successive days rather than a single big block - there is only so much you can absorb in one go plus a full days lesson could be extremely tiring. |

Travel to the dolomites - Selva?

From Munich you can also take the train to Bressanone (Brixen) or Ponte Gardena (choice will depend on connections). These stations are reasonably close to Selva and I think there are local buses up to Selva or you could take a taxi especially if there are a few of you. The total journey would probably take quite a while to do unfortunately.
Might be easier to hire a car for the journey - that's what we are doing in February. |

Skiing is quite physically demanding, especially for beginners. You will enjoy your holiday much more if you can build up your physical fitness before you go. This applies regardless of one's weight.
Good luck and welcome to the obsession that is skiing ;) |

Stop! I still have 4 weeks to go and all these pictures and stories of legendary dumps of snow are ruining my concentration on the day job

.... that poses an interesting (though possibly stupid) question - how much weight can the iced-up lake take? And what happens if the volume/weight of snow becomes more than the ice can bear? Could it cause a mini-tsumani if the ice gives way?

The Ski club of Great Britain offer a ski-guiding service in some resorts and a heavily discounted instructor led guiding in some French resorts (no longer able to offer guiding there due to actions of ESF  ). It might be worth looking at their website for details:
