My mate learned to ski in Sauze d'Oulx. The lessons began in the Sportinia bowl. Depending on where you are staying in Sestriere you would be looking at taking the Basset or Fraiteve gondola. You would need to be up at the crack o' sparrowfart to be at the front of the queue for either. It looks like a simpler affair to ski down to Sportinia from the Basset although you should be able to do it from the Fraiteve within the hour. Of course, all of this assumes that you are not beginners, in which case you would be better off packing a few more Euros and booking your lessons in Sestriere.

Hope this helps.

That's the one. Walking, biking, horse-riding, canoeing and motor-cycling heaven. Ooops, cats out the bag now ;-)

Some nice piccies there Wanderer. I too like the one of the ice climber. Those guys aren't lacking in the 'cojones department' :) . I also really like the sense of 'sheer altitude' on the Portavescovo pictures. It's hard to imagine that the Malga Ciapella is another 900m higher.

Tony, I am surprised!!! You usually 'talk a better game than that -). Don't worry, it's not as steep as it looks. I'm sure you'd cope -) .

This one has caught my interest because I love that area. I have had some of my best summer holidays in and near the Auvergne. I have often wondered about checking out the skiing there. It looks like there's a long(ish) green called Bois Joli at the top of the Falaise lift towards the right hand side of the Superbesse map.

Have a great time there and I look forward to reading your review when you get back. -)

Le Mont Dore looks even better for you. Loads of green pistes all over the bottom of the map. :)

T1berious wrote:Hi there,

It looks like my partner is about to land a job in Basel (how awesome is that?) as part of the interview process we've both been invited over and they will furnish us with ski passes for a resort of our choice (I think?)

I was just wondering what resorts are near Basel that have good runs for advanced skiiers? groomed \ ungroomed.

Never been to that region and would love to hear your thoughts.

Skiing during the weekend? bring it on :)

Cheers T1b :)

Jealous as hell, but trying to remain magnanimous. You may find this link useful.
