Don't worry. It won't work

If you google stuff about skiing often, you will see that there are tens of thousands of patents for silly things that are thought up by people who have no experience of snow. I'm sure that occasionally one will get lucky, but most are good for a laugh.

Of course, I'll probably end up eating my hat.
because I'm so inclined .....

I got one...!

It's called minidoodoo.

Image shown is more or less actual size.
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

Surely the thread will rip the piste to bits. In terms of power to weight ratio will it work and not be too heavy to carry. Also, how long will the batteries last (must last all day or it's not worth it)

Mine or Lewyho's?

The minidoodoo has a flap at the back (see illustration) which smooths the snow back down afterwards. It's tiny and light as a feather, but goes like stink. Batteries last a long time, rechargeable via energy emitted by the skier going down piste by plugging in to any available oriface (mouth, nose or ear are suggested). Plus the deluxe model comes with an optional force field which can be activated when slopes are busy.

I quite like the idea but do take the points about the danger of skiing up hill and battery life. Everyone thought that Clive Sinclair was mental when he designed the C5- who's laughing now...er maybe not then.
Just one observation, I think you'll need more than one 'screw' for propulsion. The present design will force the whole contraption sideways rather than forwards. Perhaps a double, counter rotating screw setup would solve it. I'll let you know where to send my consultancy fee.
