Not especially. I played with the midtones, contrast, colour etc but I am no expert at all. I just did a quick B&W and then played with the colours a bit. I quite like the colour change to make it feel like a totally different time of day.

Thanks, how about in terms of post photo processing?
Tony, short of changing the colouring as a whole, have you dealt much in sharpening specific aspects or otherwise?
I really haven't got into manipulating digital images yet. I so burned out on photography twenty odd years ago, I haven't taken much interest since. I really must get a good editing program, as I'm sure it would be very satisfying. Now if you want to know how do play around on an photo enlarger, even with colour, I could help
because I'm so inclined .....

Pabs,
Trencher has hit the nail on the head, i would have said pretty much the same.
Whats 'wrong' with the pic is what is not there.
I always think of a landscape photograph a bit like a story. It must have a beginning (foreground), a middle (middle ground) and an end (background).
If you had perhaps a skier in the foreground looking down on the valley or a snowy tree then that would have worked well. The middle ground is
taken care of by the wonderful clouds. And the sun would have acted as you background piece.
The sun would have been better further into the frame for sure.
Technically, it looks a little flat but thats how RAW files appear if you don't work on them.
If you do not have any decent software for editing then DO NOT shoot in raw. It would be better to shoot jpeg and let the camera process the image for you.
To improve it as it is i would use the RAW and pullout the detail in the trees, boost the saturation of the sky and clone out the metal in the bottom left. You could may even be able to move the sun!
Its a great scene, i would have loved to have been there
If you want you could send me the raw to jon at jonspeed.com and i will take a crack at it.

I had a quick 2 mins with this pic while i sipped my tea and dunked some bickies!
Its difficult to get much out of a small jpeg so i opted for a higher contrast instead. As you can see i moved the sun, darkened the sky and increased the saturation.
Cloned out the shed in the corner.
Thoughts?
