I've never considered this to be honest, and often leave my skis outside a mountain restaurant or a bar in the town unattended.

No one is going to pinch my skis. They are my likely to leave a 10 Euro note tucked into the heel binding.

Tony, in the bigger resorts it is said that the thieves aren't opportunists but orgainised criminals. I won't be leaving it to chance anymore. New skis like the ones you sleep with would be on the thieves shopping list. One of those security wires Bandit recommends should be provided with every pair of new skis purchased.

I'm surely being a bit dense here, but... how exactly does one lock skis? Do you put a (very) short cable in between the toe and heel of the binding, or..?

Typically I pass a cable through each binding heel lever, and then attach to racking/fence etc.

It's rather similar to putting a steering wheel lock on your motor car; it jut might deter a casual thief and make him look elsewhere for easier pickings. I try to remember by wrapping this chain device around the skis and padlocking them to a ski rack.

My eldest has his pinched from a ski rack one lunchtime. We went back at the end of the day to see if someone had taken them by mistake and left theirs but no luck. They didn't get handed in to the hire shop.

Who on earth would want a battered pair of kids hire skis

Hmmm, with brand new skis for us both, I might have to look into this, thanks for the heads up.
