Also they speak about 3 times faster than the Castillians, which is hard to believe and even harder to follow.

I would be totally lost then, as I have a really tough time keeping up with the nearest neighbours, when they forget to sloooow it all down for me  Mind you we get some Valenciano used in d2d language as well!

Are you good at Spanish then Bandit?

Do you fancy composing a Spanish version of the 'bend ze knees' skiers phrase-book for everyone?

Try learning Finnish. Its a language I shall never understand and nearly every-one speaks it in Finland, very little English. But we get by, although have had a few errors on food so in resteraunts I look over at what other people are eating and if it looks good I just say I'll have some of that. All adds to the fun. Mind you my latins not bad as its not really a spoken language.

Rose,
I'm having enough trouble with French - never mind Finnish! I wish you all the best of luck with your Finnish :D

I did Latin at school as well, but apart from still being able to decline 'mensa' I can remember very little of it, although it does help sometimes with the roots of words in both French and English.

I didn't know Finnish was related to Latin  Finland is surely a long way from Italy? Or did you just mean you were fluent in Latin

I found Finnish (phrase book stuff) difficult. Many words have lots of side by side vowels, and each is pronounced separately. The one word I can remember was, I think, kiiota, pronounced kee-ee-oh-ta.

Also did five years of Latin study. I thik it is fair to say, that is the worst way I have wasted time, since I have never used it.
