Obergurgl is reporting max +4 (via the J2Ski Forecast page) but normal business resumes over the weekend back into the -2's a lower. Just 2 kmore weeks - if it Ices up I stand a fairly good chance of never being allowed skiing again. My Wife has been lucky enough to ski all over the World enjoying perfect conditins since she was walking but since I joined the fray 3 years ago we've had awful conditions - La Plagne in 2009 (or was it 2008) was pretty much sheet ice and Les Gets last year was just plain crap due to lack of snow.
I'm hoping that snowsure Obergurgl comes up trumps! I'm not actually panicking at all please note as most sites are saying that itis the best conditions for years.....hopefully it will take more than 2 weeks for that to be ruined....just more of the same please....seems to be getting about 10cm/week to keep it topped up.

Matt - spring skiing has some lovely plus points.
For one - it is warm and sunny, in fact can get pretty sweaty.
So sitting out for a beer or whatever is a real pleasure.
I really wouldn't worry about poor snow conditions (until much later in the season) there has been so much snow so far this season that a bit of heat won't remove it all.
snow-forecast.com is not showng very high temeratures @2000m for the next week, high of +3 and well sub zero over night
I was in L2A in January, a very last minute trip and I wouldn't have chosen the resort after a very poor experience donkeys years ago but it is a great resort.

I expect the Vallee Blanche side will be really icy to start and then get pretty damned slushy - it gets full sun from first thing.
On the main side, being north facing, I'm sure you will find good snow. As I remember a huge amount of this side was in the shade in January - so good for not melting too fast for you.
Do read the bit about getting back down - the first slopes to go will be the return to resort runs and whether you choose one of the blacks or the green road these are the runs that could be losing skiability over the next few weeks.
BUT - just come down from the good snow in one of the bubbles, rather than spoil the day with a rock hoping, congested nightmare.
I am really confident that there will be good skiing available for you next week.
Enjoy

thanks alot for this. i know most people are saying dont bother skiing down at the end of the day but im a little bit weird lile that and love if the option is there to ski down. im pretty confident that the higher slopes will be just fine but whats frustrating is that i paid a bit of a premium for ski in and out and within a week we have gone for really cold to stupidly warm... guess theres nothing you can do i suppose being the first week of march and having researched the average snow depths veing the highest at the beginning of march im a little disapointed. also feel im bloody cursed as last year in borovets we went on the worst week of the season which left some horrid memories for myself and my partner.

Matt, do not worry!
There's over 9 feet of snow where you're going, it won't all be gone in a week.
One year we went to Puy St Vincent at 1500 m - 1st day of skiing was 11 th April, it wasn't a remarkable snow year and we skied to the apartment door until we left on the 20th.
Ok, by the end we had to carry our skis about 10 feet to the door amd the melt was definitely on, but don't fret. You'll ruin your pre holiday excitement.
Have a great time.

I ski'd in march a couple of years ago from scheffau in skiwelt. Enjoyed it so much, I'm going again on 3rd mar, like in 9 sleeps. Snow was great up top, all way down to middle station. Snow was still skiable all the way down to bottom station, but got progressively sugary. Even managed to ski through to westendorf. Any skiing' s better than no skiing. Days are longer, pistes less busy, and less need to get completely togged up. Take your cosi, last time I ended up sunbathing on the balcony in me shreds.
So, we've got sugary snow, porridgy snow, fluffy snow, sticky snow; how many other descriptions of types of snow are there out there.

A day without Ski's on is a day wasted.
