I'm 5 foot 8 and ski my Scotts at 166, theyre not true twinnies so not losing much length. 176s are the next size and feel like canoes.

Knew the marker bindings would be better as I'm only starting out with a bit of park & powder the guy said the SLR 100 would be fine.
I'm I right in thinking that the shorter ski would be better for a lesser ability as its easier to turn but would be poss flappy in speed, and the long better at speed but less forgiving in the turns and technique?
My 172 hit bang on my chin and 178 would be on the nose.
Was told to go next size up with twin tips as they have less ski touch snow due to the tips.
cheers all for the info

Shorter does not mean flappier necessarily-depends on the ski and I never found the el ray to be flappy and I'm 110kgs so put a lot through it!!

But you are right that usually shorter is easier to ski, however if a twin comes to your nose I wouldn't see that being a problem?

Entirely up to ou though, longer would make them harder to turn but way better in powder

Ok cheers for the info.
See what sort of price the used 09 go to or I may just see if i can squeeize the guy for a few more pounds on the new 10/11 178.
Hoping that the extra 7cm (5cm from what i'm skiing now) shouldn't be to trying.

Twin to your chin may be too short.
It will turn easier as you say, but nothing to do with ability and you might actually find a longer ski more flappy at speed.
The longer ski will turn longer and you'll need to work it a little harder.

Don't like the sound of hard work!
My rossi's (carvers) are 172 so I would have thought the 178 twin tips would have about the same ski to snow surface ?

Can't agree with this, as it depends on the ski's radius and characteristics. My ski collection has altered now, but at 1 time, my shortest skis at 158 had the biggest turn radius at 17.8m. My longest skis, which were my Punishers at 172, turned like carvers, well 15m.
I woud say that you need to ski a longer ski a little differently, but that's all part of developing skills.

I'm with you on the Canoe analogy, as I tried some Watea's at 176 IIRC...definitely a wooden canoe  I'm 164 and 67kg currently.

Valid point, each ski has a different radius.

My point was on a like for like ski. My Neo 166's have a tighter turn radius than the 176's, and with that extra 10cm (I skied some 178 Scott Patrol's a couple of years ago) I just found there was too much to get round the corner when playing on certain terrain.
