For those that do DIY holidays, can you please suggest a few websites for accommodation? Probably leaning more towards hotels than SC but will look at both.
Chars.

Hi Nellie. Some of the best deals I have managed to get, came simply from the official websites for the resorts I wanted to go to. I simply followed the accommodation links and then contacted the Agencies direct (in the case of apartments) or visited the direct websites of Hotels being advertised.
So far, I have had excellent deals for apartments in Val D'Isere and Livigno, plus also got a really good deal on a Hotel in La Plagne, which sadly we ended up not doing :(

If you know the area that you want to ski, try emailing the tourist board, state the kind of accomodation you want, and give them your dates.
The effectiveness of this depends on the tourist board. The best response I ever had was from the ski-welt TB ~ I received responses sent directly from the accomodation owners.

Errk, I'm gonna get shot! Of course your first port of call for information should be:
http://www.j2ski.com/ski_chalets/
It isn't just chalets as the site suggests, you can find hotels and apartments.

Chose the resort first, then go to resort website and you should be able to find all the links there.

We've gone DIY a few times (Austria and Whistler). 1st task is to pick a resort, If you're leaning more towards a hotel then trip advisor and Google maps will be a God send.
Flights (falling off a log easy)
Hotel (Pick one close to the lifts :))
Ski Pass (Resort Website)
Transfers (Now depending on where you're going this can be easy to sort out via the resort website or do a bit of Googling or You might not need one, some hotels organise a pickup from local stations etc St Anton is great for this)
Ski Hire (If you need it) Resort website should give you some good links to local hire shops)
Apart from that it's the normal insurance \ currency stuff.
Good luck!
