If I remember correctly, the kid was told to stop struggling, but continued until he fell.

The first series of photos is what happens if you get to the lift first thing, when the lifties are still flipping the seats back down, and they miss one.

Loose articles of clothing warning is on a lot of lift signage, but occasionally you come across an old wooden slat seat chairlift, which is a hang up waiting to happen.

god i wouldnt like to fall from that hight. when you say survived. he must have been in hospital or something for a while. he didnt move once he had fell. and that old video is well funny. how was it just exploding? didnt look like it was hitting anything :lol:

Austrian tv gets these reports, of course. Often seems to be chlidren who fall out of chair lifts, one did in January, fortunately survived & recovered. Adults were sitting beside her and no one seemed to know what happened.

There are new lifts with automatic safety bars.

As mentioned elsewhere on the board, I was caught with a T-bar lift hooked under my coat. Scary.

The other thing you sometimes hear about is the chair lift being switched off at night with someone still on it. The only case I can remember now is in the old cult Austria TV drama, Piefke Saga. But I am told it happens in real life sometimes.

I looked on youtube for the Bridget Jones II ski scene, which starts with a rather tame chair lift fall. Only found it in Spanish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXGl5AiYLxQ If I could ski like that and not fall, I would think I was a pretty good skier..... if you don't agree, try it!

This happened for real on lift 45 in Les Arcs. It was many years ago now, but at the end of the operating time, typically the staff take the chair number, watch that chair round the circuit twice, then switch off the lift. No-one saw someone get on the lift. It's a very exposed lift at Arc 2000, and the passenger was found dead next morning when the lift was switched on, still in the chair. The lift staff there, were very strict about folks getting late lifts after that.
