We are off to Les Arcs 1800 next season for the first time and are wondering which ski pass to buy. Do we just buy the Paradiski Discovery which allows 1 day in the Paradiski area or is it worth splashing out the 254 euros on the Paradiski Unlimited which allows unlimited access? Or, do we need to go to Paradiski at all, is there enough skiing around Les Arc?

Morning Carltonhat.
Interesting question. I just looked up the prices, and for ref they are, full paradiski 6 day pass €254, discovery pass €237 and Les Arcs/Peissey Vallandry €214
OK, for many years, people used each resort as a base for their skiing, and had no issues with just that area. I have not skied La Plagne, but I have skied Les Arcs. If the snow is good, then to be honest it is enough. However, it would also be nice to spend at least one day on the other side to see if you like it enough to return there as a base for another holiday. It must also be a massive experience going over in the cable car
Personally, I would go for the discovery pass and pick a really good day to do the other side. Not sure how often the wind closes the cable car, but pick the earliest good day to go.
Hope that helps.
Edit.. Alternately, check to see if you can buy a daily upgrade, and if so just get the local pass, then if you fancy a day over the other side upgrade when you need it.

Hi,
I ski in Les Arcs every year and to be honest I only ever use the pass which allows full access to just the Les Arcs area ( 1600 , 1800,1950,2000 Peisey-Vallandry and the Villaroger/Le Pre Sector
).
This area alone covers a couple of hundred km of piste with perhaps as much again off piste, so will be more than enough to satisfy for a weeks skiing.
You can if you wish take the pass which covers the above plus gives you 1 days use of the Vanoise Express cable car to La Plagne......but to be honest I have never felt the need.
Ultimately I feel the deciding factor will be the total cost of the ski pass for yourselves, and would it be value for money to purchase a full Paradiski ( Les Arcs/la Plagne ) pass which you may only use to go to La Plagne once .
In saying that the Les Arcs ski area is one of the gems in the Alps and you will have a great time regardless.
All the best

Hi,
Here are the prices for the season ahead 2011/2012....
http://www.lesarcsnet.com/lifts/lift-pass-prices-winter.html
Again I would recommend just using the Les Arcs Peisey-Vallandry pass at 214 euros.

Last year i was on the other side and never felt the need to venture across to les arcs, although i would have liked a ride on the cable car.
I think you will have more than enough on your side of paradiski.
