How to ski - Carving, by Warren Smith

Once a Skier has progressed to confident parallel turns, the next big challenge is to learn to carve the turn correctly and efficiently. A properly carved Ski requires less effort to work, and gives higher levels of control and stability.

"So many skiers I watch and teach seem to hear about carving, look at a picture and then go for it. The result is usually a turn which is similar to a carve but is generally with skis that are skidding for most of the turn and occasionally skis that are carving for almost half the turn. The art of making a pure carved turn is definitely achievable for all skiers", Warren Smith
